June 25, 201213 yr As a amatur weather enthusiast, I would really like to see real time weather with Flight. Do you guys think it will be implimented?
June 25, 201213 yr Some kind of "variable" weather needs to be implemented. The Themes are fine and all, at least the ones that have fairly consistent weather everywhere, but the ones with more variety in them have the supposedly variable areas always locked in the same place. I could only deal with the same crazy-huge thunderstorm over Kauai Channel so many times before I was done with it. It's hard to beat the variability of real-time weather, as you get something different each day.
June 25, 201213 yr I don't think so, at least for now... As a glider pilot in RL, and working at the metoffice, that's the kind of feature I love in a simulator, and in part the reason why I still like ELITE so much.... Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
June 26, 201213 yr After aircraft with VCs, real world weather is my biggest wish for flight. I frequently fly through the hurricanes using FSX... sadly the eye wall is none existent. Often the eye is not modeled either.
June 26, 201213 yr When I was flying FS9 I had a program that created realistic weather called Active Sky. I think it cost about $ 50.
June 26, 201213 yr Yes, I used AS quite a lot, mainly as a beta tester for it, and it was/is certainly a great product. That said, I can't forget the big improvements brought by MS FLIGHT in terms of weather. Even if we stay confined to Weather Themes, those already available, specially the new ones introduced with the latest patch, put MS FLIGHT in the very 1st place in terms of weather effects, not necessarily from the visual PoV but certainly from the "physics"... The turbulence, windshear, microburts(?) (available in the latest weather themes and experienced by me on a short final ....) are simply unique, I really can't find anything similar in any other simulator. Well ELITE has great METAR and RWW integration, but the turbulence effects are poorly modelled... AS2 had great weather effects too, inherited from ATP and enhanced by Simon Hradecky. Visuals were as real as we could get by then (around 1996) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
June 26, 201213 yr I never liked real time weather... I did use ASE but I always used historic weather to get the weather I wanted to fly in: ASE simply showed me better weather then the FS-engine itself could produce. I had a few dates that I liked. The weather I like to fly in depends on my mood. I also never really got to grips with how it worked when you were flying on the other side of the world: I usually fly in the evening but I like my sim to be in daytime and when I fly on the other side of the world, real time weather would give me night weather at daytime...? Anyway, I think weather themes are perfectly fine, specially when do are as good as some of the Flight-themes. What I would like to see is not real time weather but a weather engine with options, so you can create your own weather. I would like that a lot more then real time weather. To answer the OP: I don't think real time weather will be implemented soon...
June 26, 201213 yr I agree with Jeroen. The possibility to set at least some parameters would be great. Yesterday when I arrived home it was a very hot day in Lisbon, Portugal as a whole... 37C, 42 in some places. I started ELITE to make some tests for that other PROP RPM vs IAS thread, using the Mooney M20J, and it's great to feel the effect of the really HOT weather in the sim... It climbed painfully, and I had to wath the engine temps and use the cowl flaps according to the manual :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
June 26, 201213 yr Just to clarify, I would be fine with the current themes if the cell locations and such were randomized daily, like the Jobs are.
June 26, 201213 yr ^ Especially the "Mixed" weather. Hurricane force winds over Upolu are fun at first, but every time I load it? (Then again, as Alaska is so big, it might be along time before I get bored with some local weather setting.) Another weird effect of weather in multi-user sessions...Someone will mention going through a thick cloud bank, and those a mile behind him won't even see it until they reach the same point. There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.
