June 4, 200422 yr I seem to be flying little else these days. Superb!Despite its complexity, it has very little impact on resources. It uses Dierct X for sound (not the simulator) thus releasing resources for use in the sim. All systems are represented including a great FMS.Also has working weather radar, TCAS, etc. etc.If you haven't tried it yet, give it a go. Incredibly, it is FREE!http://fandafans.fscentre.com/ John
June 4, 200422 yr Yes, just began with this bird. Very impressive. Finally A turboprop which behaves perfectly during taxi relative to power control. Wish some of the payware birds did so well.Only complaint is that even with 3200 x 1200 resolution, still cannot read the annunciator alarm panel at all.Happy flying:RTH
June 4, 200422 yr Yes, it is an excellent product. I have the PSS Dash8 as well and in many areas the Fanda excels over the PSS. It has better sound and more systems modelling (an area where PSS really flopped...I expect much more from a payware product). Working weather radar? Not really. While something appears on the screen, it is not an actual representation of the current weather. I believe something to that affect is mentioned in the docs. The FMS isn't as functional as the PSSs (but then the PSSs FMC is not fully functional either) but it does the job. All in all a great package and for my money better than the pricey PSS product.Mike
June 4, 200422 yr Hm, I played around with the weather radar last night, watching the display whilst changing the weather. The display definitely changed and cleared when I removed all weather.I'll have to have another look tonight. John
June 4, 200422 yr No fancy eye-candy. No VC.You are so busy flying the aircraft single-handed, you don't have time to mess around switching cockpits/views.The 2D cockpit is very immersive and a VC would not, in my opinion, add to the experience. It's the closest I've got to "being there"! :-) John

June 4, 200422 yr >Mike, the only reference I could find is this:>>"Dash-8 weather radar is simulated using the current weather>interface of FSUIPC">>I too thought this meant the gauge was a dummy, but maybe>not.>Actually it is a semi-dummy, sometime ago I read a post by Fanda regarding this, he said the radar depiction is not 100% a rendition of the weather outside, it was a step forward but we shouldn't call it a working weather radar yet.The FMS in the freeware package is very limited (this was done intentionally I think) but the main functions that will take you from point A to B are there; the development continues and a final product (which is going to be released soon) will include a fully simulated FMS among other great improvements including the ability to run the panel at 1024 x 764 or more for easy reading, an incredible failures module, an even better flight dynamics, higher refresh rates of the gauges, and other great things that I really don't remember at this moment.I'm really looking forward for this release, it's going to be payware and I'm sure it will worth the money Fanda ask for it. I don't know if he's going to release the payware with a new aircraft model, if he does that would be a great bonus, we can't deny a nice visual model adds to the immersion in some way, but if he doesn't that's not a big problem neither, this airplane is so fun to fly from the inside that there's really little need to look at it from the outside. We just have to stay tuned here for more info: http://fandafans.fscentre.com/ also, for any support needs with the current freeware and for any inquire about the future payware go here: http://forums.fscentre.com/index.php?board=6.0 the guys there are experts on the Dash and they are really friendly and helpful.Best regards,Carlos.
June 4, 200422 yr I did a "HowTo" over at FlightSim.com on using the FANDA cockpit and sounds with other 3rd party Dash models. I have found the Premier Aircraft Design by Barry Blaisdel et al, particularly good for graphics, especially the props.NigelVancouver
June 4, 200422 yr I too fly the Fanda Dash 8, and I await the release of his payware plane :) I have combined the PSS model with the Fanda Dash8 panel.
June 4, 200422 yr The only thing that keeps me from flying this aircraft, that I hear so many good things about, is that it doesn't have a VC. I only fly from there, and that includes other complex sims like PMDG's.I think that the Frolov forum stated that their Dash-8-Q400 might have a VC, but the -300 will not. In which case, I really hope to try the -Q400!Mike F.
June 4, 200422 yr The Fanda Dash 8 is brilliant :) Very detailed, and resource friendly :)http://album.atomic-systems.com/showPic.ph...rbus_Advert.gif Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
June 4, 200422 yr >Ohhh, interesting, is that a simple merge?Dan,I found it to be a simple merge. Just copy the lights, contact points, and ummmm, maybe one or two other things from the PSS aircraft.cfg into the Fanda aircraft.cfgf and your golden. I figure I payed for the PSS model, I might as well use it for something ;)
June 4, 200422 yr I've been flying the Frolov Dash 8 since it was first release, and I love it. It models the Dash 8 systems very well, sounds fantastic, and flies like I think a Dash 8 should (which means nothing of course, since I'm not a Dash 8 pilot :) ).
