Weather Injector recommendation...

Featured Replies

RW Weather is not the strongest feature in FSX... Now that I have FSX Gold installed I would really like to get a nice weather depiction, not that much from the grpahical view but more from the meteorlogical POV.

What would you recommend: FSMeteo v9 or ActiveSky2012? I know about another one, even working with Prepar3d, but can't recall it's name ...

Hello

As2012 without a doubt

FSMeteo is old, I have v8 and I would guess v9 it is exactly the same but with an updated installer to accommodate P3d.

The author did the same thing when FSX came out V8 for FSX which was identical to V7

With As2012 which is in constant development you are also getting some very nice textures.

AS2012 also auto generates thermals, wake turbulance ect, how well I am not qualified to comment but as a glider pilot yourself these may be of interest.

For me though the killer feature that no other realtime weather program has at this time is Historical weather.

For me this means that when I come home from work in the evening but would like to fly in daylight in the sim I can set up the sim for the daytime hour I want then select the Historical feature and request the metars for that time to be loaded and played back from that point.

No more flying with nightime temperatures with the sim set to daytime

Thx maddog :-) I made part of the beta team for AS during a couple of years, until 2007... It's certainly a great program - I didn't know/recall the thermal generation !!!! That looks interesting, although I also registered CumulusX!

Hello

I am looking forward to historical weather being added to REX, for my uses it is a necessity.

As a REX customer I am glad you have added this feature, thank you.

I still prefer ASE for a weather engine and REX E for sky textures.

Hello Jose

There you go, even more choices, while you wait for more opinions on which payware weather engine to go for check out FsRealWX lite for a freeware option

Was going to recommend this myself. I use AS 2012 but if you're just looking for a weather injection engine and don't want to cough up cash for REXE or AS2012 FSRealWX is the best option out there by far..

Yes FsRealWX is very good and highly recommended !

With kind regards,

FS Meteo and FSrealWX will inject current weather conditions into the sim, and they will do this reliably as you fly, but they will use existing default FSX textures.

If you want a better looking FS flight environment, you'll need something that replaces the default FSX textures with its own (which you can then configure and reconfigure to your hearts content), as well as injecting up to date real time or historical weather into FSX, with live weather refreshes as you fly. If its the latter, then go for REXE or ASE.

Well, thank you guys for your posts - they were all very important!

Last week I did come across the "hanse-coders" proposal when I was considering Prepar3d and trying to find out if I could use AS2012 with it, FSmeteo, etc... Later I decided to go for FSX, but meantime I had lost the link to that project. I will give it a try, and since I really don't mind not having great textures (otherwise I would certainly invest in REX too) I think it'll do just fine... I really look forward for smooth transition between weather stations, just as I have in ELITE v8 even if the graphics are so basic there...

Again, a BIG thx to you all!
