July 30, 201213 yr I am getting a Addon Scenery scenery.dat error. I have looked for the scenery.cfg that is active. I have found all kinds of scenery.cfg's in various locations. Which one is the one that FSX uses? I cannot find any scenery.dat files anywhere. Thanks, Bob.
July 30, 201213 yr That's C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX for the vital one. But I don't know how some addons or even FSX handles the other one in the FSX folder itself. So, after making a backup, you could copy the one from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX to the other places. On the error itself, does it state any details?
July 30, 201213 yr There's only one 'active' scenery.cfg and that's the one CoolP describes. It's best to leave the others alone. They are backups of previous configs. Do not copy as suggested. What exactly does the error report say? Regards Frank Jones
July 30, 201213 yr Scenery.dat files are used in FS9 and are equivalent to the FSX files in SceneryIndexes.

Here is my Scenery.cfg entry at the location you stated: [Area.128] Title=CVN68_Carrier_North_Sea_V1 Local=Addon Scenery\CVN68_Carrier_North_Sea_V1 Active=TRUE Required=FALSE Layer=128 Regards, Bob. July 30, 201213 yr Your scenery.cfg entry looks OK. But, do you have FS9 and FSX installed? As GHD says - there are no scenery DAT files in FSX. There may be some confusion between those programs. The error note is saying - go into your Addon Scenery folder and open to the file cvn68 and delete it: just that file. Leave it in your recycle bin until you are sure all is well. Regards Frank Jones
July 30, 201213 yr Hello Check that the file cvn68' is actually still in \Addon Scenery\CVN68_Carrier_North_Sea_V1 Chances are that file may be corrupted. The Scenery.DAT files are now located in \ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\SceneryIndexes\ masquerading under the names FilelistIndex.DAT Filelistnnnn.DAT ect. Just as in FS9 days when faced with scenery errors, these are safe to delete and will be regenerated the next time FSX is started
