July 31, 201213 yr Today's AVSIM announcements includes a new F4 Phantom that has just been released for FS9 and FSX. Before anyone buys it for FS9, I suggest you check out the Cloud9 version. Though it is an older release, the C9 Phantom is outstanding. Judging by the screen shots only, as I have not purchased it, the new release may not be to the same standard as the existing C9 Phantom. Cloud9 (you will find them on the FSDT home page) has a "try before you buy" option so you can download and fly the full featured F4 and it will run for a limited time. I recommend you give it a look if having a Phantom in your hangar is something you'd like. The new product may be excellent, but the Cloud9 version is an FS9 legend IMO and my guess is it's still the best one you can buy Cheers Ian
July 31, 201213 yr How's the VC gauge refresh rate in the cloud9 version? I used to have their F-104 and the gauges were like a slow slideshow. Thanks. JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI

It may be old but the model is very good, it achieves great FPS, the flight dynamics seem pretty realistic and the sounds are great - I had forgotten that this comes with a great sonic boom and happened to be flying it in the spot plane view with the volume turned right up (wife was out!) when I crossed the sound barrier and thought that a thunderbolt had hit somewhere near the house! In the past I have tended to fly this one from the 2D cockpit but this time used the VC and the gauge refresh rate certainly on my system didn't seem to be a problem. Like you, I don't know what the new one is like but the Cloud 9 Phantom is going to be hard to beat. Cheers, Bill
July 31, 201213 yr Author How's the VC gauge refresh rate in the cloud9 version? I used to have their F-104 and the gauges were like a slow slideshow. Thanks. It is one of the smoothest VC performers I've ever had though in a zoom climb the altimteter might be a little slow... Give it a try - it's fully functional as a trial Cheers Ian
July 31, 201213 yr I haven't used FS9 for many years now, but I do remember the Cloud 9 F4. Awesome aircraft. That and the MB339 were great. Wish they'd kept making aircraft. Didn't Cloud9 merge with or transform into another company?

Didn't Cloud9 merge with or transform into another company? I think the guy who did their aircraft models quit the business - he had started work on a Caravelle that was never completed. The scenery side morphed (I think) into FSDT Ian
August 4, 201213 yr If every addon I've bought was as nice as the C9 Phantom I'd be one happy boy! It's the best payware F-4 out there, I should know I've got them all (except this Abacus one, yuck). I just wish Cloud 9 had done a Navy version, but as long as they had to choose just one, the E/F was the best choice IMHO.

There actually is a Navy repaint and although it's not strictly accurate, as the USN never did operate a version with a gun, it's still pretty good and with a couple of tweaks it becomes operable from the Alphasim CVN Enterprise on Yankee station! Loads of fun Ian
August 4, 201213 yr Concur - the Cloud9 Phantom sets the bar so high - few are able to compete - even years later... Still my favorite jet fighter in my hangar... The fictitious Navy paint is the only one I fly... Regards, Scott
