Featured Replies

whenever it rains.. it won't rain continually non stop

it rains then stops for about 2 seconds then rains .. rinse and repeat

I'm using FSX SP2 with Active sky 2012 latest build.

any ideas what causes this? or ?

Ciao!

Have you re-installed AS?

No issues here, Brian: Gray & Rainy, CYYJ 3 5 min. flights. L corner of windshield leaks......

I had a similar problem where FSUIPC was the cause.

There should be a checkbox called "Allow changes to FS weather" in the FSUIPC options. I found that when this is turned off, the problems with rain/snow would be resolved. No FSUIPC wind smoothing is available with this option de-selected, however.

Out of interest, do you use the DWC setting in AS2012?

Seeing the same problem as Brian, but only with ASE. When using REX-E, FSRealWx or FSX native, the same light rain situation is steady. With ASE running, I get that on/off cycle.

Thanks for the tip, Philip. I will try that one since I literally spent hours finding a setting inside the ASE options which could cause the trouble. I never thought about FSUIPC playing a role in the combination as the other weather addons worked.

AHHH!! I think that did it. shutting off the wind control thingy in FSUIPC I'll keep trying it and see how it goes, but so far really good.. nice to see steady solid rain

Ciao!

After flying some flights with the rainy weather and running ASE, I came to this conclusion.

From the FSUIPC manual.

The facilities on this tab are partly intended to work as filters on external weather being injected (through FSUIPC4) into FSX, and also, if the Allow changes to FS own weather option is set, on the weather set in FSX by its own system, whether by download or by direct injection via SimConnect separately from FSUIPC4.

One needs the 'Allow changes to FS weather' option in FSUIPC to allow for the smoothing to work on Simconnect injected weather, which ASE is. Means that, with turning it off, we turned off the whole smoothing FSUIPC offers. This isn't an option for me with ASE, even with the DWC mode running.

Either way, I'm only using ASE for the historical weather, so the dreaded rain on/off situation may only happen there. For any real-time weather, I'm on REX-E and FSRealWx, where light rain situations aren't a problem so far.

One thing and I dont know if its related to this or not, is that I have had the weather and/or rain display differently at different points of the airport. For example, i've had it raining at one end of KBOS but dry on the other side of the airport. I could even slew back and fourth where the wet/dry line was and get rain or no rain, but ASE UI was reporting the same station.

Had this happen at KDFW AND KFLL as well. I've seen someone else post about this but never saw a resolution for it. For the life of me when the same station at an airport is reporting, I dont see how this can happen.

Now that sounds puzzling indeed.

I can imagine (layman's perspective of mine) some ASE logics saying 'rain on!' and some FSUIPC smoothing making it 'rain off!', then going back and forth. But seeing a different behaviour at the same airport and time? Strange. :(

I've never tried slewing around when it happens, I may do in the future.

The onky reason I slewed was because I was taxiing and it was raining and as I crossed the runway it stopped. So I hit the slew key and backed the a/c back over the runway and it started raining again. I did this a few times in slew mode back and fourth, rain and no rain. Puzzling indeed.
