September 18, 201213 yr Commercial Member The patent that Uniloc appears to have been given... is invalid. I've been writing software longer than that patent has existed (by quite a bit), and used such copy protection methods before said patent was given. You can not patent something that was already in use prior, especially one that was used by a great number of software companies. Unfortunately the patent office hasn't a clue regarding software. September 18, 201213 yr Commercial Member I've been writing software longer than that patent has existed (by quite a bit), and used such copy protection methods before said patent was given. Doesn't this have specifically to do with copy protection on mobile devices though? Although I agree with you that it's the exact same concept and there shouldn't be a difference as far as patents go, that's probably how Uniloc got around that requirement. You're absolutely right though - if the patent office knew anything at all about software, things never would have gotten this bad. Noah Bryant
September 18, 201213 yr They have solutions to avoid invalid and ridiculous patents: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-Patent But patent offices love patent trolls. They're in collusion. Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
