September 13, 201213 yr Commercial Member no offense but Austin is rich, why is he asking for more money? I would rather buy more xp10 products than pay for his legal battles. Sounds Pathetic! If you had $20, and had to throw away $10, you'd be upset. He's being forced to, basically, throw away $1.5 million. Doesn't really matter how "rich" someone is...$1.5 million is a LOT of money (His kids trust fund; set his parents up for retirement; a valuable charitable donation; the list goes on)...for anyone...to spend on something that shouldn't even be going ahead in the first place. I also seem to remember a very well known, millionaire FSX add on developer ask for donations for his political campaign. That was something he had total control over and was important to him...and not a word about how rich he was, was mentioned. Austin has no control over this and it is so low on the importance scale for anyone (except Uniloc), I would use the court papers for a very specific purpose that I don't care to mention in a public forum. (But I'm sure you all can guess what it is)
September 13, 201213 yr Well, yesterday I donated the amount I had so far gathered to invest in further X-Plane10 add-ons. It was my best effort. Also sent Austin a support email, and today a few links to organizations fighting this type of trolls. I did it because, just as Tom pointed out, fighting this kind of practise is necessary, and Austin asked for support, so, I think he really needs it, but above all I think he deserves it... September 13, 201213 yr What in the world makes you think he is rich? He donated 1.5 million to a pet shelter, sounds rich to me.
September 13, 201213 yr Hello X-Planers, I'm an FSX simmer, I don't own X-Plane and at the moment have no intention of owning it, but I've just sent $10.00 to support Laminar, because this kind of lawyer-driven horse manure winds me right up. My parents used to say, regarding money obtained through unscrupulous means, that "you'd never have any luck with money like that". Let's hope it's true. Bloody leeches. I hope Laminar and all the others send them back beneath whatever slimy rock they crawled out from under. Holdit
September 13, 201213 yr He donated 1.5 million to a pet shelter, sounds rich to me. And that says a lot about the man and his wife. Any funds donated to his legal defense that are "leftover" do not go to his bank account. They go to that very same shelter, and I am okay with that. After all, when your copilot has claws that can set you on your correct flight plan, so to speak, you understand the man. My CoPilot - Tough as Nails No bigger than a Newt

September 14, 201213 yr Moderator Hello X-Planers, I'm an FSX simmer, I don't own X-Plane and at the moment have no intention of owning it, but I've just sent $10.00 to support Laminar, because this kind of lawyer-driven horse manure winds me right up. I am in the same position myself vis-a-vis supporting any effort to fight inequity. I too do not own X-Plane, nor have I ever even downloaded the available demos to try it out. The sole reason is that I simply have no available free time in which to do so... Nonetheless, I too have contributed to the legal defense fund. September 14, 201213 yr Hi Folks Solely WRT Bill's comment quoted below - EDIT: Maybe UNI-LOC should sue UNILOC for infringing on their name... Hmmm... http://www.uni-loc.com/ IANAL ! Please take this with the light-hearted intent as posted. The cited "names" should not be UNI-LOC and UNILOC, they should respectivcely be UNI-LOC and Uniloc. AIUI - UNI-LOC != UNI-LOC | Uni-Loc | Uni Loc | uni loc | UNILOC | UniLoc | uniloc | Uniloc Also as AIUI - My examples apply, whether or not those names are registered. Again AIUI - Trademarks, Trade Names, & Brands, are all "field of business" specific. In the cited example, uni-loc.com is a website name, (not a brand or trade name). The actual registered marque is Uni-loc System®, the brand name for a supplier of connectors for billiard / pool cues. Quite easily discernably different from Uniloc Corporation, the computer security and copy protection software company being discussed here. HTH ATB Paul ODG Preview
