New FSNav for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bumped into the following website yesterday and was astonished to see that we have now the equivalent of FSnav for FSX (nice design, nice interface within FSX with pop up screen...).

http://fstramp.com/

I am also astonished that nobody mentionned it earlier considering the thousand of simmers that, like myself, dreamt of having Fsnav for FSX since 2006....

Greg

Correction : the program, compare to FsNav, only works in windowed mode, which is a NO GO for me.... too bad.

too much, too soon....

Interesting ... Welcome back Helge Schroeder !

Looks like FsTramp is by the same author as FsNavigator.

FsNavigator for FSX at last -- 5 years too late, after many broken promises. !!

I suspect that most former FsNavigator users have switched to FsCommander by now, and are more than happy with it.

Yes but the main issue is that you can bring FSC as a pop up screen as you could with FsNav (F9 key) and with FSTramp.... Now it is true that with the iPad add-ons and so this has less interest than it had in 2006-2009

Yes you can .. (not a big deal -- you do the same and more with FsCommander)

Just downloaded FsTramp it and tried it.

I was NOT surprised to be dissappointed. :(

(1) Will not run in XP. FSX runs in XP. I think this is the 1st addon in 5 years, that will not run on XP, one of FSX's supported Operating systems.

(2) Screen Colors are

"REVOLTING" and thats putting it as nicely as I can !

Its all but UNREADABLE. (and no options to change colors).

(3) AI plane labels are a total mess. (at least they worked much better in FsNavigator).

(4) As suspected, after FSnaviagtor, screen updates are painfully slow. (Unlike FsCommander).

The list goes on ... (but I won't )

"Different strokes for different Folks", but unless there are some major improvements in future versions, this is one addon that I will avoid. (shame, FsNavigator seemed quite good -- till FsCommander came along) .

There is a thread about this already and the program DOES work in full screen mode. When you drag the window, there is screen corruption but once you let go of the window, everything is redrawn back to normal.

It's about 60% of what FSNAV was, it still lacks a planner and a few other things, but it looks nice and works well. It's a bit too expensive for what it does right now...

Have to wonder about the name FsTramp ..

I must assume it is a GERMAN to ENGLISH translation thing .

Unfortunatly, the word TRAMP, first conjours up something different in English.

If you look up TRAMP in a Thesarus, a Synonym for TRAMP is NAVIGATE.

So, in a round about way, it is still FsNavigate !!

(Then again, it could have been FsTrudge )

Actually, the synonym that first came to my mind was "bum..." Just%20Kidding.gif

If memory serves me right didn't you used to be able to generate a flight plan by dragging and dropping with the original?

I don't see how to generate a flight plan with this version.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I have the trial.

Trial seems to be fully featured until started for the 21st time. I can't create a flight plan either and there aren't as many options as there were with FSNav. I guess this is how it is...

BTW:

By rights, FsNavigator, and it derived product, FsStomp should be FREE.

They are BOTH directly derived from the programs NAV and NAV3, whose source code was released into the public domain.

Nav is Open Source ("free") software released under the terms of the GNU GPL. This means that anyone can download and run Nav without charge, and the source code is available for programmers to use to write more GPL software (but you are not allowed to use the source code for any other kind of software):

HA! Nice find. Now where does this leave "FSTramp"?

Absolutely WRONG!

NAV and FSNAV are two different programs and FSNAV was a) NEVER written under the GNU license and B) NEVER released into the public domain.

FSNAV was and still is the property of Helge Schroeder who wrote it and it appears he has resurfaced and is working on FSTRAMP.

If he did base his code on the available source code, it HAS to be under the GPL license. If that happened, he is infringing copyright, unless i'm missing something here?

the GNU licernce permits charging

When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not price. Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for them if you wish), that you receive source code or can get it if you want it, that you can change the software or use pieces of it in new free programs, and that you know you can do these things.
