July 5, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi, "Why are people always so negative when it comes to suggestions? C'mon, MS have actually been ASKING for suggestions. Maybe not everything ends in the sim, but just see how far we've come ... Although I'd have other suggestions"I never post suggestion online, for many reason, suggestion on forum may not be all read from them, they be gone from system forum crash or lost, the best way is via [email protected] they will be received, preserved and read at 100%, I have send them a 15 page doc with picture and example on anything related to Msfs ground, weather, new idea, and links for 3d feature.Sadly only the most demanded wish are implemented in priority and the performancesystem market availabilitytime shedule will remove tons suggestion. Fact from the past msfs version, they add little by little on each version and not at full accuracy at all, maybe in 6 years the accuracy will start to be here, on weather, flight dynamics implementation and they will only have to upgrade the graphics instant of trying to learn the accuracy vs real world implementation.High expectation make you sad and negative with Msfs, take it easy it's a pc title lower then $60!ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
July 5, 200421 yr >Well the clouds didn't look as good as the FS2004 or even>FS2002 ones but there's more to the weather than the shading>of the clouds.A sim is an illusion. If the clouds wern't up to the prior Pro-Pilot, or the current FLY (at the time)..................... then I wasn't impressed, nor did I bother with them. It was like flying into a "comic book"! :D L.Adamson
July 5, 200421 yr Larry I agree the visuals werent fantastic in FU3 but I do remember the night takeoff situation into a thunderstorm in a beech jet.It really was a realistic experience with windshear on takeoff and a radar which worked and painted the storm.Get too close and the beech would shudder in a realistic manner run into the storm and all hell let loose.MS should be able to create this but with good cloud visualsPeter
July 5, 200421 yr "The superior pilot uses his superior judgement to avoid having to use his superior skills."BobSometimes with the best will in the world especially in put puts which live in the worst levels unlike stratospere blasters ;-) You will get situations like that.It was also a day when light icing was forecast and was collected in a quick descent to warm air way above the SSA.So I knew it would drop off as quickly as it built up.Peter
July 5, 200421 yr I think they were better than the Pro Pilot clouds. More variety. We all know that Fly was the best Cloud Simulator out there and it still rivals FS2004. However, FU3 did look very good when flying through rain, fog etc. Only the cumulus clouds looked a bit funny. -
July 5, 200421 yr WOW...that is an amazing pic!!!As for fear (or lack of it) in the sim, I wouldn't quite say that that statement applies to me. As an example, I just finished a flight from SYJC to TTTP. As I flew along, it got progressively darker, as it was an evening flight. As I was on approach to TTTP, I noticed some cloud cover. Knowing that FS is known for having see through overcast, I PRAYED(literally) that it was not the case. I might be crazy or something, but because of an earlier (sim) experience in the daytime with visibility down to minimums, I always get scared when flying into cloud cover (in the sim, mind you, and I've never been in the cockpit of a real plane). Well, the clouds cleared up, but it was pitch black (my monitor does a real good job of displaying this) It was only when I was establiched on the localizer did I confirm that the lights in front of me were indeed ILS 10 for the airport. Again, I prayed for a smooth landing. I wouldn't say that I had a lock of fear, because I was definately not calm when I could not see anything out the windows. But that could be just me. **Note: What was I flying? Why none other that the A320! Even though "autoland" is available (as some of you might say) I always like to land her by my own hand, except when I cant see the lights of the runway, or the runway itself. :) **

July 5, 200421 yr I will always remember the directions in the manual for the 1976 Cessna 150 that I trained on. It said to open the window and reach out with a cerdit card and scrape a hole in the ice to see through. Glad I never had to try that.Steve A
July 6, 200421 yr Thats a cool and terrifying shot. I've dealt with that sort of visibility problem many times in the past while driving (live in Winnipeg :) ) and even then it can be pretty damned unsettling. I can't imagine flying under those circumstances. In Microsofts defense though I think it should be noted that "as real as it gets" doesn't necessarily mean "as real as it can or ever will get." I've always interpreted the slogan to mean simply that MSFS represents the most complete and accurate flightsim currently available and imho it certainly isn't far from true in that regard.
July 6, 200421 yr >Sure, we have all been a part of pushing the envelope and many>of us have indeed done this with great success and will>continue to do so. But what you are asking in a $50.00>simulator for MS to produce is not what their audience is all>about...I beg to differ. While the things that Peter asks for may not be what you perceive "the audience is all about", I think that the weather modelling that appears to be in evolution over the last few versions could in fact be a reality in future versions of the sim. The audience will choose to use whatever components of the simulator they are comfortable with. Many will not turn on the existing realism functions, but many will request even greater levels of realism. There will always be a place for the hyper-real offerings from specialist developers for specialist applications, but I would bet my next pay check that if MS bundled these features into the next few versions, many wanna be pilots much like myself would use every function available.I did not see anywhere in Peter's original post or subsequent additions where he says the sim is "not up to snuff" for any reason, whereas he does say and quite rightly so that for the sim to live up to it's claim of being "as real as it gets" it will certainly benefit from more accurate or realistic weather modelling. The whole argument of "what do you expect for a $50.00 simulator..." is utter nonsense, as what we have today for $50.00 is much, much more than what we had 10 years ago for a similar price. There is no reason why we should not expect a similar rise in the number and quality of features for the forseeable future on the assumption that MS will continue to produce this "incredible" simulator.Cheers,Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern AustraliaMy "Around the World 4" flight pagehttp://members.iinet.net.au/~portercbp/fly...e%20World_5.htm Core i7 3820 | Asus P9X79-DELUX SLI M/b | 32GB Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz RAM | DeepCool Gemmaxx CoolernVidia GTX580 1536MB GDDR3 Video | ASUS MW221u 21" WS LCD2 x Kingston V300 240gb SSD RAID for OS and FSX | 2 x Seagate Barracuda 1Tb SATA HD's in RAID | 1 x 1Tb ext b/up driveAntec P193 Case | Corsair 1000W PSU | MS Win 7 Professional 64 BitMy website and aviation photo gallery - www.christopherbporter.com
July 6, 200421 yr Wasn't there a Seneca V for fs98 that would give you the option to make the window ice over? Anyway, I would love to see more realistic dangers from weather in Flightsim. I was reading a flight training book this weekend, and they had an entire chapter on the dangers of weather. Not just t-storms and fog, but icing, frost, freezing rain, etc. I would love to see some consequences due to weather factors. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
July 6, 200421 yr Peter, I agree with you 200 percent, I focused too much on just the icing but I really meant the whole weather system too. In Colorado, where I am from, the mountains can create their own weather, you can be flying around in clear blue skies and suddenly there are a few clouds and shortly there after serious thunder storms. I long for this realistic, ever changing weather in FS. Am I putting FS down like others have said? NO! I am saying there is room for improvement, we have made impressive gains in FS over the years but this kind of realism is what I hope to see. Just so those people who think that I was putting FS down know what I think...... Do I like MSFS the way that it is? Yes, I enjoy the heck out of it, and no, because there is a lot of room for improvement. I enjoy what I have but like almost everyone else wish that there was more and better realism in this sim. Just out of curiosity why is it that someone can post a positive comment about FS and they are challenged for being a Microsoft crony, then post a comment that wishes for more realism and then you get accused of being too negative? These are just people's thoughts and ideas, why so many of them are taken out of context is just beyond me. This is a forum of ideas, please people let them flow. July 6, 200421 yr >>Fs2006 please be a fully dynamic weather system with all its>hazards.>This pic pushes the point for Dynamic weather dont you think?>Actually Peter, this may be a bit closer to "doable" than we might all think. Those of you who are building aircraft for FS9 and are familiar with how the new rain effects in the VC work, I believe a similar method could be used to simulate a progressive icing of the windscreen, thought it may require some extra hard coded bits by MS as well. But it certainly could be done without too much trouble withing the existing structure of FS. Who knows, maybe in the next release....just a thought...:)
July 6, 200421 yr I do not want start a new Ariane thread! But have a look at the preview shots of the upcoming Ariane 737NG. This plane will feature icing cockpit windows! So this is possible in FS2004. It was only, that till now no designer has tried to model it!http://www.arianedesign.com/news/news.asp?Blob=586&http://www.arianedesign.com/news/news.aspWolfgang
