Featured Replies

There's a video of the painting of 559AS on the company website. I'm trying to find a public link.

All but seven of them.

All but seven of them.

It's not like they really need it, most of the routes up here between Alaskan destinations are flown with 400's anyway, haven't flown on anything inside Alaska but these save 1 time in a 700 maybe 5 years ago... but the day will come that the classics will be replaced.

Alaska uses SFP for the Hawaii routes more than anything, they wouldnt be able to fly in or out of LIH or OGG without it. It also comes into use on the BLI-HNL route. Im sure there are others her who can give more insight, but that was the first couple of things that came to mind.

Oh, makes sense.

Alaska announced today they they're ordering 50 new 737s. Maybe those -400s are on their way out?

Jon Skiffington

There's something fishy going on with that plane.

Yep. The -400s will be gone and Horizon will be coming up to fill in the gaps with their Dash-8s. The -400 Combis will be gone and maybe add a few -400 freighters. The Dashes don't have much cargo so the freighters will step up their ops.

Do you know this, because I'd imagine they'd keep most of the Classics until the MAXs replace the NG's down south, then take those up here to fill in the Alaska only routes. I think they'd also want to keep maintenance down to one type of aircraft up here instead of doing jets and turboprops, probably save money.

The Base Chief Pilots have been saying what I wrote. Second-hand knowledge, so take it with several grains of salt. Until the planes are in ANC, it's all speculation. Maybe it'll be -700 freighters.

AS wouldn't be doing the maint on the QX planes. That would be QX mechanics, I imagine. Although, they'd probably use the ANC hangar if they needed to.

Yeah, it's all pretty much guessing for now.
