July 6, 200421 yr Seeing as I live in Minneapolis, I'd love to go but it's hard to find a hotel in the local area to stay at during the event... It's too far to travel back and fourth to everyday and I FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
July 6, 200421 yr Try priceline.com at the last minute. The last 3 years I have always got a room right in Oshkosh(the baypoint inn for $50)- the last two days-and for this excellent price as people leave early etc. Also Green Bay(where I usually have flown) usually has openings as not many go that far north-only a 30-40 minute drive from there....This year though I am flying to oshkosh....Great idea about avsim and oshkosh.....http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
July 6, 200421 yr I slept in a tent for a week in the on sight campgrounds. I'd probably do it again, although I prefer hotels for most trips.L.Adamson
July 6, 200421 yr Me and a couple of friends here in Finland are going there for the whole week. It was very hard to find any place to stay but we ended up in Green Bay. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
July 6, 200421 yr Suggestion:I went to OshKosh a couple of years ago or so for the 50th year celebration. Heard Yeager three times, Lindburg, several others and overdosed on all those beautiful birds. You are 100% correct on Hotels. The closest are booked permanently for all future years by those connected with the celebration. I booked a place at Fond du Lac some 20 to 30 miles away over a year ahead. A few weeks before the event, I called to be sure everything was still in order. They never heard of me. Ended up staying at Manitowok about 60 miles away. The cost really was a wash between the cost of the room and the fuel burn every day. A neat drive as well IMHO if you like rural scenery at all. If I ever have the pleasure of going back I may do the same thing from scratch. It pretty well eliminates the hassle. The Manitowoc to Sheboygan area is right on Lake Michigan as well which is a beautiful region. If you have a thing for aviation and have never been to the big event at OshKosh, GO! Very impressive for many reasons. Cleaner than Disneyworld and some of the most friendly people in the world. If it is not the thrill of a lifetime to you, you need to be playing with boats, dogs, dolls or something else, not flight.Happy flying and enjoy the event!RTH
