October 12, 201213 yr Was able to have a link to UK TV last evening to see this documentary. A Boeing 727 was used to crash it for research purposes. The crash site was in the desert in Mexico, were a fully controlled B727 was set for a very heavy landing. Yes there was a real crew and the passengers were crash test dummies. The flightdeck crew and cameramen parachuted out at a specific point of time. What was interesting was that they set up a remote controlled facility from a chase aircraft to bring the aircraft down. The cost of the end of life aircraft was USD$300,000! If only one could get hold of something similar for a simulator conversion! I am sure that it will be possible to find this documentary on the web somewhere. You will find it extremely interesting, if only for how they undertook it and the results of what happened inside the aircraft during the crash. It is 1H30 long. A very well coordinated test involving experts from different backgrounds, etc. Sauviat Martin Parr Retired professional yacht skipper for vessels up to 46m System: Omen 40L GT13-0054na Gaming PC; Windows 11 Home 64-bit OS; Intel Core i9-10900K CPU @ 3.7GHz; RAM 32GB; Samsung S34J55x Monitor 3440x1440 @75 Hz Resolution; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Ti. October 12, 201213 yr Author Spook, only if you are in the UK. It is the same for UK ITV, BBC etc. It states "Not available in your area". One would have to rely on someone placing it on You-Tube or similar. Sauviat. October 12, 201213 yr The documentary looks extremely interesting. I really wish I could find a working link. :( Oh well, I'll keep looking. Maybe there is a way to order it on DVD.

October 12, 201213 yr Yes I watched it last night, surprised there was no fire but I guess they took precautions to minimize the chances of this happening. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-plane-crash/4od An international team of scientists, experts and elite pilots deliberately crash land a 170-seat Boeing 727 passenger jet to study the mechanics of a plane crash in real time Rather than carrying passengers, the plane is packed with state-of-the-art research equipment, including three crash test dummies worth $150,000 each (plus a number of simpler sand bag dummies) and accelerometers to measure the G forces on passengers.
