October 22, 201213 yr Moderator Hi there, I've been running a genuine Win7 install with MSE installed since I formatted it when I received my pc. For some reason, today I got a pop-up message from MSE saying that "windows did not pass genuine validation, security essentials will become disabled in 30 days if you do not resolve this issue". It then provides a link to go online and resolve now. Is this real? I didn't even download anything recently and never disabled MSE, why the message now? Help it, please. October 22, 201213 yr Hello Be careful; It is a know issue that malware can impersonate and make bogus alerts. Other reason can be a corrupted "licensing component issue" I would not follow the link provided in the popup. Instead I would reboot and then go directly to Microsoft.com to validate or repair Windows licensing. www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ Cheers Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
October 23, 201213 yr If your Windows Update feature works ok then their is no problem. Also if you formatted the HDD for a clean install then you will need to "reactivate" Windows within the specified time. (30 days?) This is assumig that you have the Windows installation disc and not a factory recovery disc version. In which case it would not need reactivating. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
October 23, 201213 yr Moderator Probably a good idea to download and run MalwareBytes JIC. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 24, 201213 yr From what I've seen if Windows is not "genuine" it will go to black background and tell you in text in lower right. Otherwise if a new install it should tell you on your system properties that you are not activated, but AFAIK, not activated <> not "genuine" until the activation timer runs out (can be re-armed for 90 days). scott s. .
October 24, 201213 yr After a lightning strike near my house I replaced a fried UPS and powered on my PC, then got the same message from Windows. The MB was defective and made Win report for some reason. New MB and all good
October 28, 201213 yr Right-click the Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties. Check to see if Windows is activated. You might have changed something in your system that Microsoft used to activate your product. You can also look in the Windows Event Viewer and there should be an event. Just search for genuine or activated, something like what you saw in the message. If you find the Event, then you can click on the link at the bottom of it to see how you can fix it.
