October 25, 201213 yr I broke down and bought the Gold Edition of FSX. My computer runs it just fine. My first impression was it had a lot of eye candy. I also thought the airplanes had more functionality. I thought "This could be something really nice". After a few days I thought I might dump FS9. I decided to take one more flight out of Seattle to Portland, Oregon in the DA Cheyenne. About half way there, I started thinking I would have to be crazy to leave FS9. I've done all the tweaking I have numerous addons and twice the framerate. I will probably keep both simulators, but FS9 is my go to version.
October 26, 201213 yr 'Koolaid' ?? Really? Do we not understand yet that this fs9/fsx 'opposition' is SO over and done with?? Regards, Mark
October 26, 201213 yr Hi Bill, I understand where you arre coming from. I have had both sims and true with DX9 in FSX it takes a very good spec'd PC to handle this sim with addons. I have a marginal FSX PC, and up until I tried DX-10 I was to the point of scrapping the whole thing and quit simming. I just dont have the money for a new rig. All parts in my PC are old and used with the exception of my motherboard and its 6 months old. If I can make DX-10 Work With my minnimal knowledge and hardware anyone can.DX-10 FSX is truly a new simulator. Just my thoughts. Jamie Moses

October 26, 201213 yr Is it really? Not from what I see reading thru these and other forums. Truly wish it was. The plethora of such debates just underscores my point - that endlessly positing one against the other is beyond pointless. Regards, Mark
October 26, 201213 yr I don't believe that a simple description of one person testing one sim and then the other is any less important than posts complaining about it... Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
October 27, 201213 yr Author you can simply ignore the post, Mark. I was just giving my thoughts about the two sims after spending a few days testing. I do get some enjoyment from FSX , but I don't see the necessity of investing a bunch of cash or time tweaking. I will try a payware scenery to see if it changes my mind.

I think he's rather referring to the "koolaid" comment, which refers to a mass suicide in the late 70's. Somehow I'm not seeing the connection between that expression and FSX, but I'm glad to see you're still getting your enjoyment out of FS9. I invested time and money into FSX because I wanted better visuals and the latest plethora of wonderful add-ons. I'm loving the "koolaid". There's no necessity to invest cash and time into any of these sims. It's a hobby and we do it because we enjoy it. (I had many part time paychecks tied up in FS9 as well) Lastly, this thread will get one of two reactions. I think I can leave those reactions to your imagination, though. Asking others to simply ignore it seems a little unrealistic -- such profound statements will get flak and/or praise. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
October 27, 201213 yr Author I see what you're saying. From my standpoint, when I opened FSX, I saw another long line of tweaks and and adjustments needed. The thought of all that made me feel a lbit disappointed. Beyond that it was a tongue-in-cheek comment. Over the years, I have learned to not take this or many other things too seriously. Life is too short for that. It certainly wasn't meant as a profound statement.
October 27, 201213 yr I think he's rather referring to the "koolaid" comment, Exactly (edit - I took it as just modern vernacular - someone who's brainwashed) I see what you're saying. It certainly wasn't meant as a profound statement. My misunderstanding Bill, took it more seriously than you intended, and I'm weary of defensive fs9 users who just can't accept that FSX came into it's own long ago. But trust me I DO get it. I saw no reason to go tweaking/building another whole world for essentially just better graphics, especially since I'm happily gate to gate hi end AES airports with complex heavy iron 99.9% of the time. October 27, 201213 yr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_the_Kool-Aid I thought the context of the statement pretty clearly determined the intended usage. Jonestown is so far outside my historical horizon that it never even occurred to me to associate it with that specific incident anymore at this point in time given the much more common modern usage. Off topic, but I just thought it interesting how nearly comically startled I was that anyone might make a connection to the older usage, in this context, at this point. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. That is indeed where the expression came from. Rather or not it's outside of your historical horizon or not. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
