P3D/FSX Freezes when using ProAtc/X

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, Has anyone else been having this problem. It seems to be a ProAtc problem because the defult ATC works without a problem.

Have tried the default plans in ProAtc and ones I made myself, but 9 out of 10 freeze P3D at some stage during the flight, (but not ProAtc). There seems to be

no patten when the freezing happens. I think some people are having the same problem in FSX, but it is not a wide spread issue with this

program. Myself and a few others have reported this to the devs at ProAtc, but no solution has been posted on their forum yet.

I have P3D and ProATC running with admin rights, on Win 7 64, and use the defaul B737 FSX aircraft.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John.

John,

I know of your problem. I was also experiencing the very same thing.I think that quite a few of us (customers/ex-customers) went through that and reported to the developer only to be told that our system/tweaks or mysterious addon was at fault.Truth is that the software is far from complete and users are basically alpha/beta testing the software and paying for it. I hope they will finally get a decent coder whatever. You could always try to get refund.maybe if the dev is feeling well that day he'll refund you.

Good luck.

You need to download and run AppCrashView and see if there was a faulting module or other explanation for the CTD (freeze) - http://www.nirsoft.n...crash_view.html. Have you tried renaming your fsx.cfg, restarting fsx and allowing the fsx.cfg to rebuild? This fixes many problems. If it does not work, you can always go back and rename the config you previously renamed. High settings in FSX or bad tweaks in the fsx.cfg will bring FSX to its knees.

Freezes are mostly caused by errors in system configurations. FSX is a very powerful sim that uses a lot of resources. You are looking for an error in ProATC and it could be your BIOS or hardware that is causing the problem(s). This is why not everyone who owns ProATC and P3D are having issues like yours.

Since the crashes occur on some flight plans and not others, it is possible there is an issue with the scenery you are flying over for that particular flight. I'm hoping the AppCrashView program will find some of the reasons for the crashes. If there are no App (FSX) crashes shown in AppCrashView, then it is most likely a more serious problem. You'll then have to go into the Event Viewer and look at every recent log and look for critical errors.

Best regards,

Jim

You didn't indicate it but just want to be sure you selected P3D under Options/Application in the ProATC setup.

So did you try and work with support to find out why you were having issues. From my understanding it is only effecting a few people .

Guys

Go though the process, like Jim has said. Once you have found out the reasons for your crashes, Use the windows 'Event viewer' to find out what caused the crash. It's helped me in the past.

If it a ProATC-X cause, the event viewer will tell you that, then let MBA know over on the ProATC-X forum.

If its another issue, then Jim and the crew here can help you out

The freeze issue does not crash the desktop....you will find if you wait (eg 9 minutes) that fsx continues where it left off. It is then that you look at the event logs for windows to look for an issue.

When it freezes, look at task manager for anything which is taking up resources..... or not responding........ and if you have an antivirus software running at the same time, try killing that. In some cases that will fix the freeze.

Jim, I will try APPCRASHVIEW as you suggested, and yes I have ProAtc set to P3D, but also note that everything in P3D is default, I have not added any scenery and I only

use the default B737 from FSX. The other weird thing is I can fly the default EDDL-EBBR FP without any problems, but when I try another default FP from the ProAtc list or one

of my own, it will freeze. And as roy said it does not do a CTD, it just freezes for 9 minutes and restarts, but not for long before it freezes again, and the only way to kill it is with

Task Manager. Any other suggestions you may have jim would be most welcome. BTW, I have the AV set to exclude the P3D folder.

Cheers,

John.

Hi John,

I have had that happen to me a couple of times (no P3D) with a ProATC-X flight. In fact just yesterday was the latest on a from from Los Angeles to San Francisco. My event viewer showed an application (FSX) hang. I downloaded and installed the latest update 1120 last night and just finished flying the same route. FSX did not freeze. I think it is caused by my sliders being set too high when it does happen and/or my display driver settings set too high. It might also depend on what I'm doing at the time during the flight like running external views, wing views, back to the VC, etc., etc. So far the Event Viewer has not shown ProATC-X as the fault. I never tried it when my system froze yesterday but everyone says it freezes about 10 minutes and then you can continue on your flight. I will try that if it happens to me in the future. Here's how I look at this problem in my layman terms.... when you launch a video on YouTube and set it to show HD 1080 format, the video will continue for a moment then freeze while the downloading catches up. It will then continue for a few seconds then freeze again. ProATC-X and the background ATC take up a bit more resources so I think this can be easily fixed by lowering some sliders, maybe just turning autogen off. The fact that your system does not freeze up when you run a normal flight plan without ProATC-X tells me ProATC is using more resources to function properly so you will need to turn down a slider or two.

You also have the option to turn on Log Events in the Options page of ProATC-X (you probably have already done this). I doubt this type of event would be recorded but it's something to consider if it happens in the future. You can then send your log to Pointsoft with an explanation where they can analyze it.

Best regards,

Jim
