Cannot get DX10 to work...

Featured Replies

Hi Rocky: Here is your fsx.cfg. Note - You don't need to run Vsync control in the cfg - it takes away up to 5 fps.

Biggee issue: your Nvidia drivers are out of date.

To get the Vsync Tear Control you need the 301 series drivers: get them here: 306.97 is the latest shown.

Smaller Biggee issue: The Inspector settings are messed up: Use the Med example here (4xSGSS + 4xS) for Inspector's settings. With the new GPU driver you will get additional vsync control in Inspector. Set it as per the Med example.

Get back to me if you have a query or question... Thanks,

pj

Thanks Jim that's really good of you. But I guess I still have to change the shaders?

Yes, for sure. It will not affect your DX9 installation. The DX10 fix only fixes problems with DX10 and touches only DX10 related files.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Howard,

According to author of the fix, you should first start up FSX and enable DX10 and make sure it is working. Then shut down and install the fix then restart FSX. If the DX10 fix doesn't start up again, it's because you have to go back to your previous version of General10. Paul has a complete copy of the original General folder then you can reapply the fix. If that doesn't work, Paul has a complete folder with all the fixes included. You just replace your current General folder then go up into the User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX\ and delete the Shaders10 folder.

Best regards,

Jim

Hey Jim, Paul, I really appreciate your help with this, but as before, I'm throwing the towel in. Even after carefully following the procedure, I had AI with no textures, the sim crashing, water completely blue with hardly any detail, very jaggy AA and a framerate that was about 1/3 less than in DX9! There are just too many things that are broken, I just can't get my head around things. I guess I'm just a whimp!

Smart....very smart!

Friend, to avoid all these textures in DX10 rare should limit the FPS between 25 and 30, there really runs smooth as those textures disappear. if any of you know Spanish, I recommend a forum where they have achieved great things with DX10, here is a link.

http://www.foroaviones.com/foro/simulacion/19325-fsx-dx10-ya-algo-mas-que-preview.html

I'll look forward to your forthcoming vid Alain.

Ok here it is, over Miami X, I pushed the plane way beyond her limit in real life.

I would like to see the same in DX9 or better...with P3D.

What ever stutters you may see I don't have them in the original vid. theses are caused by youtube.

I had AI with no textures,

Sorry to hear that Howard. DX10 is not compatible with FS9 textures. Only those made for FSX. Therefore, you have to install this addon utility called Addon_Converter_X. It replaces FS9 textures on the fly and during your FSX session. It does not permanently convert the textures. It's on sale somewhere for about $19 (think FlightOne). It has a 10 minute demo for you to test to make sure it works for you. Unfortunately it does not convert everything as some have found.

Okay, the jaggy textures. You need to turn AA/AF on within FSX and in your display driver. It does not like external settings from your display drivers (that's why they called it a DX10 "preview" and it wasn't fully developed as the Aces Team had hoped). If you have a basic fsx config with water set to 5, and most sliders set to max, you will have a perfect DX10 setup. DX10 uses more of the technology that came with your video card. It should work better than in DX9. Some people here have thrown in some neat tweaks to improve performance and most of the tweaks come from Paul. You need to let the sim breathe though and I think it makes it work better. I like the fact that you have shadows in the cockpit most of the time, flickering on many runways and taxiways is gone, and you can now see progressive taxiing.

I see Alain has thrown in another piece of candy... Gee. It sure looks better than that old format - DX9....

Best regards,

Jim

Another great video Alain! Your flights over Miami day or night are great!
