Inherent flaw of FSX to give too much ground friction?

Recommended Posts

Of course, if anyone has better settings, please tell us all!

Johan every time i make a landing i realize how much the realism in FSX ground handling has improved since your patch. I think you deserve a kind of 2012 award for that !

Thanks again and merry Chistmas.

Taxi speed should be "a brisk walk".

That's what they say..................but I can just see myself taxiing to the other end of our mile long runway at brisk walking speed.. :) Let alone at KSLC (10 miles straight north of here).

Guys, how to extract the original SIM1.DLL? Who knows which add on had messed it up?

Thanks,

Dirk.

If you haven't downloaded a revised version of SIM1.DLL from elsewhere then it won't be messed up. If you did then you were advised to make a backup of the original before replacing it with the altered version.

The alteration that FSUIPC makes does not alter the SIM1.DLL either, it patches it realtime in memory only, the original file is not altered in any way.

Cheers, Andy.

Andy, please note this post:

I can't remember if I ever changed SIM1.DLL. It could happen so that I did not back it up. My current file was Created: Mon, Dec 10, 2007, 8:30:16 PM and Modified: Mon, Dec 10, 2007, 8:30:16 PM. Accessed: Mon. Oct 03, 2011, 10:37:22 PM.

Was this file modified by SP1 or SP2 at least? I think I have a backup of the original Flight Simulator X folder and I can get the un-updated file from there.

Thanks,

Dirk.

My Sim1.dll is not altered and has a modified and created date of 26 ‎September ‎2007, ‏‎17:09:20

I have acceleration installed though and that is likely to have a different creation date to SP2.

The post you quoted was supposition, its not a known fact, it could have actually been an older version of FSUIPC, Pete did make an alteration to that bit of the code which fixed it for someone else. Perhaps the chap he was quoting was using an older version mistakenly rather than the one he quoted as using. Again that would be supposition though.

The question really is why do you think your sim1.dll is messed up?

Cheers, Andy.

I may have meddled with it, but was in fs9? I can't recall.

Thanks,

It only affects dry pavement. You'll still get the original effects on wet, snow or ice. If you're not experiencing a difference on dry pavement, pretend your 737 is a Formula 1 car. If you're keeping reasonable taxi speeds, you shouldn't see much difference, except maybe in a reduced takeoff roll.

Hook

No...this is not correct. FSX applies a friction-reduction scalar to wet, snowy, and icy surfaces, 0.9 for wet, 0.8 for snow-covered, and 0.6 for icy. These scalars are applied to the dry surface friction coefficients in SIM1.DLL...so if you have modifed the dry values by either a SIM1.DLL patch or via FSUIPC's runtime hook, then the friction reduction scalars will be applied to the modified values.

Ok, good info. I remember reading that only the dry values were modified by FSUIPC. I saw the original table, but didn't study it thoroughly.

Good news, so the patch is all-weather.

Thanks,

Dirk.

This is a very good news! So FSUIPC apply the patch to all type of weather?

I red all the post but am bit confused:

1) about takeoff/landing distance: does this addon "false" the run for takeoff and landing or not?

2) Is it available a full version of FSUIPC without installing an interim module? Again, I found only version m module, which is the last?

3) ismit possible to modify the value parameters? I suppose yes, via LUA script?

Many thanks

Yes

If you use the DynamicFriction.lua script, there will be a very small effect on the takeoff/landing run. If you use the option in the .ini file there may be a significant effect on takeoff/landing distances.

Right now you need an interim version of the FSUIPC4.dll file...nothing earlier than 4.859k. Better to use 4.859m

3) ismit possible to modify the value parameters? I suppose yes, via LUA script?

Absolutely, just use a text editor to modify the values in the lua script.

Thank you very much Scott, but can you explain me better 1) point? why is there difference between two methods?

I've seen that not in all airports the this addon works, yesterday I landed in Mumbay and there wasn't any difference with default or FSUIPC addon, is it a bug?

Riccardo;

The .ini option is a global change to the friction values that is in effect for the entire sim session. The .ini option also works with the unregistered version of FSUIPC. The Lua script is a more refined solution, aimed at those that want to preserve the FDE designer's TOLD performance. Lua scripting requires the registered version of FSUIPC.

The improvements are fairly subtle, except for the improved side friction which really improves steering. The DynamicFriction.lua script only reduces the rolling friction values when at taxi speeds (i.e. below 30 knots). It works well here...if you're having trouble with it, I am going to leave that to you to troubleshoot, as it was provided as an example of how to take advantage of the new capability with a lua script.

Many thanks.

Do you know if it works also with saved and resumed flight?
