December 4, 201213 yr Post is pointed at Theboeing man Loading the PMDG NGX & Rex HD cloud texture is easily halfing your frames depending on your gfx.(If any clouds are present) Adding some other addons and AI traffic will reduce it with a couple more.. So I guess you will end up near 45 frames max and 30 min in dubai.. Which is VERY acceptable still.. Can you test? Thank God There is finally someone who was able to work this out. You were spot on mate! Congrats! My actual fps with Rex HD clouds at overcast and full air traffic I get 51 max and 33 min in pmdg NGX at daytime on ground at DXB. I only get more than a hundred fps when on cruise and around 71-79 fps when all that REX crap is disabled. It's only on cruise where I get 118 fps on average. Lionel
December 5, 201213 yr all that REX crap This is an exaggeration. Almost all of the Real Environment Xtreme textures significantly improve FSX realism. The clouds give you something to look at when flying across an otherwise boring sky, and help mask some of the inaccuracies of default FSX scenery.
December 5, 201213 yr Author We are running a bit off-topic now. Most important point for me is wether I will gain a considerably better performance than my currently used AMD Rig is able to achieve. On my present System I get, as mentioned before, around 16fps in high complex situations, such as PMDG, REX, complex weather. However: this can only be achieved as long as I run FSX on medium settings only ( with 1920*1200 though ), which doesnt make it appear very nice. When reviewing the posts here, I come to the conclusion, that my intended Rig-setup ( i5 3670k etc, see starter post ) wouldnt be capable of delivering fluid performance with at least 25fps in demanding situations as well, so finally, I doubt that this investment would make sense for my requirements... Would you back up this appraisal or can it be expected, that FSX performs considerably better on the new system? Best regards Toto

December 5, 201213 yr (25+fps, fluid, no stuttering, I will buy it tomorrow. conditions below) lol Me too!! Honestly, we'd have to OC our current gen of CPUs to literally 7+GHZ to achieve that kind of performance...
December 5, 201213 yr You will get more than 25 FPS mate (with NGX and complex scenery), as I said with no AI it's going to be very achievable with those specs, of course that's with using usepools=0 tweak. Real world CPL holder.
December 5, 201213 yr Just take a look here on Word Not Allowed´s GREAT Software/Hardware-Guide and his settings and explanations ! http://forum.avsim.n...-guide-for-fsx/
December 5, 201213 yr Author Sounds a bit more promising... So, what graphics card wouls you recommend? From what i know, FSX isnt that demanding on the GPU side!? Again, I'm looking for good performance at affordable prices. Best regards Toto
December 5, 201213 yr So, what graphics card wouls you recommend? From what i know, FSX isnt that demanding on the GPU side!? I think NVIDIA video cards are more flexible with tweaks because of the Inspector software that can be used with them. I have not been able to apply many of the graphics card tweaks mentioned in Word Not Allowed's guide with my AMD Catalyst Control Center software. While processors are most important, a good graphics card is necessary if you want to be able to generate clouds, water, etc.
December 6, 201213 yr From what i know, FSX isnt that demanding on the GPU side!? Basically, FSX is demanding with GPUs usually only in clouds and addon scenery airports. Everything else in the sim requires CPU power.
December 6, 201213 yr Author Would a geforce GTX560 be sufficient? How much GPU RAM is required then? Best regards Toto
December 6, 201213 yr Would a geforce GTX560 be sufficient? How much GPU RAM is required then? VRAM is irrelevent in FSX... As long as the card is above 1GB of DDR5, you are fine. I would reccomend the GTX660 as a minimum and if you can afford it, get the GTX660Ti.
December 8, 201213 yr Sounds a bit more promising... So, what graphics card wouls you recommend? From what i know, FSX isnt that demanding on the GPU side!? Again, I'm looking for good performance at affordable prices. Best regards Toto The EVGA GF GTX 660TI with 2GB comes at just £217.49 which is probably the best GPU for under £220. Its performance is pretty much mind blowing for its price tag. But if you're looking for something with a bit more power then something like the GTX 670 FTW from EVGA also comes at £295. Lionel
