December 6, 201213 yr Sometimes I don't know why I bother with FSX! In reality I use it because I get to do the the aviation stuff that I would never get to do in reality. In reality I am a cross country sailplane pilot so I do get to fly and flying a glider is something special. Sailplane pilots are committed to due diligience and we pay great attention to the details of all aspects of glider flight. This involves many hours of work on the ground for every 1 hour in the air. That's the nature of aviation! However it appears to be the nature of FSX also! Many hours of work on the ground for 1 hour of flying pleasure still on the ground! Anyway as I said I am interested in FSX because I get to do things that I would never do in reality, like learn to fly a 737NG. See the attached photo's of my modest little setup that I created to take the Angle of Attack 737 Captains package. I looked into this for a while and considered one of the more expensive TQ's but I though NO. I want a budget solution that is somewhat ergonomically accurate. BUT! The God Damb Saitek Trim Wheel works with every F**king aircraft in every flight sim that there is EXCEPT the PMDG 737NGX. Give me a gun so I can shoot myself! I the mean time I am going to send nasty emails to both PMDG and Saitek customer service but can anyone tell me a solution to the well documented problem. December 6, 201213 yr I wouldn't mind an answer to this as well. I'm currently using FSX key commands. BTW, tell me that isn't just OJ in that glass. - Aaron

December 6, 201213 yr Dave, what program are you using to set the axis for your hardware? Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
December 6, 201213 yr I am using FSX to sutup the controls. I know I need to get FSUIPC but I have read that the problem of the Trim wheel only working in one dirrection regardless of the way it is turned is not solved by using FSUIPC
December 7, 201213 yr Doesn't it have a "range", meaning that when the controller is signalling it is in the position, say 5000-16384 that you can tag it to "trim nose down" with fsuipc and when it is in -5000 to -16384 you can have it signal "trim nose up". And then when it is in a more or less centered position, it isn't moving the trim anywhere? I don't have this device, so apologies if this is not possible with it. I would just stick with the rocker/thumb switch, since that is how it is done irl, and the manual trim wheel is just auxilliary.
December 7, 201213 yr Ok, I have the Saitek trim wheel (that I use for GA flight), and the NGX. A year ago when I started asking around about the trim wheel (before I had purchased it), Ryan (Tabs) in the PMDG forum recommended I not use it with the NGX. Frankly, I never have as I only consider it useful for GA flight (where in RL I would manually trim via a wheel rather than use an electric trim system). Even though a B73 NG has a "trim wheel", I doubt in RL it is ever turned manually, at least in normal procedures. I don't know, but would assume that Ryan's advice was based on the fact that some of this NGX simulation is programmed outside of the FSX basic program, as is usual with PMDG products. So, with an airliner, I never even touch the trim wheel, but use one of the rocker switches on the CH yoke to emulate electric trim. I have never had an issue with GA airplanes using the trim wheel. I also use the registered version of FSUIPC to set up the trim wheel as an additional axis. I have no idea on how the very limited FSX axis assignment works, I never use it. Thanks, Bruce. He's just a little frustrated, I don't think that's fair. he's trying to find help. But I don't think the PMDG uses any default key commands so I don't see how it can work.
December 8, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hey I have the same probs in non PMDG aircraft so don't feel pregnant. Cheers jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
