Is there anyone with 2k4 who's NOT using USA Roads?

I just wanted to mention that this is one of the strangest and best add-ons I've ever used, and I'm not even getting the most out of it since my PC isn't too hot...It's weird enough to find and follow roads you recognize, and realize certain spatial relationships between places you've never noticed before. For example, before I could drive, I had some friends who flew - and we drove to various airports which seemed, at the time, really far from where we lived. Geographically, I realize now they were right next door.So I decided to fly over my "wonder years" geography of San Diego, CA - Tierrasanta, Scripps Ranch, Mira Mesa... and I'll say, it's rather intrusive to see all these new neighborhoods where we used to go hiking unrestricted. :)Also exceptionally odd to see major criss-crossing freeways where there used to be a few two-lane roads and a traffic light... I wonder how many people would use a feature that would let you "rewind" the roads to 1980!And there's something oddly unsettling about seeing my neighborhood and its surroundings, connected to the neighborhood where I went to high school, and realize that what seemed to be a vast and expanding world of discovery was just a little patch of land, and not even a very wide one at that.So it's a strange emotional experience. Getting old I guess.Andrew

I know what you mean. I had a similar experience after installing the UK-VFR scenery, and trying to follow one of the roads I drive along that links Uxbridge with central London and which passes RAF Northolt. In no time I'd flown over Uxbridge and was off west into the Home Counties ! It similarly reminded me that you get a lot further a lot faster by air !Cheers,Alastair

I don't use USA Roads.

I came so close to buying it, the only thing that stopped me at the last minute was the loss of the autogen bridges. I don't know why, but I would rather see bridges spanning bodies of water than having complete road data, using roads in place of bridges instead. But if they ever do add the bridges back in I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.Derek D

I don't use it either. - Doug

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

It seems to be a great addon, but I am doing just fine finding my way around town without them.... :D

Not worth it in my opinion. You can only follow roads that you know for so long. And those that you don't know, so what? Of course, I do very little VFR flying.

>I don't use USA Roads.Me either. Won't even buy it since I dont live in the US. Maybe if they release Europe Roads I might consider buying :)Jani

Hi Derek - You don't lose the autogen bridges, it just draws the roads where the bridge is -supposed- to be!Andrew>I came so close to buying it, the only thing that stopped me>at the last minute was the loss of the autogen bridges. "Of course, I do very little VFR flying."I do quite a bit of IFR, and it still adds immensely - don't forget you can often see the ground in IFR, especially when you're IFR in clear weather ;)It's nice to see correct, major roads around airports and so forth.Of course, you may not care about the visuals at all...And the questions was really guided at US pilots! :) I bet England would be relatively fast for them...Andrew

I like flying at night with USA roads coupled with the upgraded night textures. That's when, for me anyway, I see the most compelling and realistic views, especially descending from a high flight level on approach into a large city.

Have it, like it at night only.Rest of the time I tend to "file ifr" and be on my way

Which upgraded night textures do you use? Thanks,Andrew>I like flying at night with USA roads coupled with the>upgraded night textures. That's when, for me anyway, I see>the most compelling and realistic views, especially descending>from a high flight level on approach into a large city.

I'm currently using the fs2k4gnight.zip and gnfixv2.zip by Chris Willis. I like the sodium set (mostly amber) option. In USA Roads I'm using the low pressure sodium option. I'm also using the alternate nuroad11.zip from Frank Bergson. In the past, I've used fs2night.zip by Chris Arrington, which I think is good too.Regards.

I am in the US.
