December 19, 201213 yr If you´re experiencing stutters due to a slow/fragmented HDD then yes, the SSD would fix that but it won´t give you any FPS more in FSX ! The 3770k overclocked @4.8 - 5 Ghz (de-lidded and good cooling) coupled with fast memory could reach your desired 20% boost or even more. You know that FSX runs best with Nvidia ? Interesting..... Yeah originally I had a Asus 580 Matrix but on an RMA they screwed it up, then lost it and then replaced it with a 7950 (900MHz - 3 gig). I do enjoy the eyefinty across three screens but might still change it to a 680 4 gig one day. So that clock speed (4.8) on a 3770 is about the same clock I have now on a 2600 (4.6 - 4.8). I am on water but just an h100. My ram is not bad. So still think a 20% over an overclocked 4.8 2600k? Rob"Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it"
December 19, 201213 yr So still think a 20% over an overclocked 4.8 2600k? I do not think so, based on the performance I receive with my stock i7-3770. Even if I do overclock, I do not believe my performance would be much greater than that of a properly overclocked Sandy Bridge processor. From what I have heard, Sandy Bridge CPUs are more tolerant of massive overclocking than Ivy Bridge ones are.
December 19, 201213 yr Hey guys, I am wanting to upgrade my computer to run FSX with pretty high settings. Haven't really thought about a price limit at the moment, but I'd like to keep it reasonable. I am currently running FS9 with tons of scenery, REX, ActiveSky Evolution, GEPro, iFly 737, etc. I am also using 3 monitors with Eyefinity. If I upgrade to FSX I want to run the same addons but with the PMDG 737. My current setup: -i5-750 Lynnfield 2.67GHz CPU. -Foxconn P55MX motherboard -Sapphire 6950 Flex Edition Vid Card with Eyefinity(3 24" monitors) -2GB ram This is what I am looking at upgrading: -Ram: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820233240 -Motherboard: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131819 -CPU(which I will overclock): http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819116501 What kind of frames can I expect to get with 3 monitors, GEPro, PMDG 737, REX, and other airport sceneries? Thanks for the help. I have my numbers for my FSX rig that might help you. Instead of posting all the information you can click on the CPUID banner and see what my readings are on the processor. Also you can look at "my computer" on the left side of this post. As you will see I am running at 4.9 on the processor and it is overclocked with water cooling. I also run a program to moniitor the core temp of each processor which they run around 180F but never above that temp. Another little program I run is a program that shuts down computer process's that do not need to be running while running FSX. With all this I am running a steady 29.8 FPS with high settings. i turn bloom off because if I fly @ night on some gauges they will have a glare on them so I shut bloom off. If you are interesting in more information I would be more than happy to give it to you. Les lh
December 21, 201213 yr I'm surprised and dismayed by this. I have just an i3 and a Radeon 6850 (1 monitor), and in my PMDG MD11 and clouds/rain/some AI I get around 15-20. I was hoping an i5 or i7 would put me into the upper 20's or 30's solid. Now, I'm not so sure I'll throw money into a CPU upgrade if the pay off will be so little. Clark Don't worry, its worth it to upgrade. With a safely overclocked (Sandy or Ivy Bridge) i5 -K or i7 -K ( K-version ! ) to around 4.3 - 4.5 Ghz and a decent videocard (minimum GTX-560TI), you can have a steady fluent almost stutterfree (only microstutters sometimes) 29-30 or 23-28 in (very) hard conditions. Of course if Word Not Allowed Tuned also ! With kind regards, Bart S.
