December 23, 201213 yr you cannot "span" across one big virtual monitor unless they are all the same size and resolution. That isn't true. Size doesn't have matter, only resolution, refresh rate (vertical frequency), sync polarity.
December 23, 201213 yr Yeah, i'm going to get a gtx680 to try this (am i right in thinking that my 570 plus another old card won't work?). I'm hoping to use 3 'standard' monitors i have lying around. Most modern monitors will do the same resolution and refresh rate these days, won't they? I'm not going to try and add in my 19" trinitron or anything! Anyone had luck with a random pot-pouri of modern 24 inch-ish monitors and Nvidia surround? December 23, 201213 yr It'll work with the 5xx series cards if you use 2 identical (same model, not necessary to be the same make) cards in SLI. 2 x 570s will do surround, but you can't have an additional fourth monitor (what nvidia call an accessory display) active at the same time as having the three in surround. I don't know if the accessory display can be used in FSX/P3D anyway - I seem to remember it can't. Whether you'll be able to use 3 different monitors in surround, I can't say. I've never tried. In 3D surround, you have to have all 3 absolutely identical, that's not the case for 2D surround but I can't remember the exact requirements - as someone else said, it's not actually the size that matters, rather the resolution and refresh rate, however I'm not sure if they have to have the same _native_ resolution - I'd imagine they do, and that you can't just use varying monitors but drive them all at the same resolution, in any case, if you did that the image quality wouldn't be great due to the interpolation.
December 23, 201213 yr Whether you'll be able to use 3 different monitors in surround, I can't say. I've never tried. I successfully tested Nvidia 2D surround mode on my new GTX660 with FSX and one window spanned across three monitors different in size. One 23" (Eizo EV2333) in center and two 22" (Dell U2212HM) at sides. For tests one Dell was borrowed. Now I'm going to buy second U2212HM for permanent use. As I wrote ealier monitor's size doesn't have matter, only resolution, refresh rate (vertical frequency) and sync polarity. Why size doesn't have matter? Because of nature of digital signal generated in graphics card RAMDAC unit and transmitted to monitor. This signal is described by such parameters as: dot clock, horizontal resolution, horizontal frequency, horizontal sync polarity, and vertical frequency( refresh rate), vertical resolution, vertical sync polarity. There is not information about size of monitor (or dot/pixel size) in these signals. Any monitor, regardless its size, capable of working in accordance with the standard CEA-861 for 1920x1080 resolution, can be used for Nvidia 2D surround mode.
December 23, 201213 yr I already have 2 DELL 24 inchers @1920x1200 I plan on getting a thrid, same resolution but a different brand, which is 150 less; the ASUS PA248Q 24,1" (ISP as well) This should enable a perfect fit?
December 23, 201213 yr It should work OK. Because it is different from the others I would personally use it as my center screen.

December 24, 201213 yr Great generic setup - i see you loke Saitek! Question: is anyone doing this with 27 inch monitors. What about lcd tvs? Im going to try it with 24 inch screens (because i have 3), but i have been pricing samsung 27 inch monitors, and i currently use a single 40inch lcd with trackir. December 24, 201213 yr I am using 3x 42" lcd tv's and like it a lot, I also have my racing rig with 3x27" screens which I find good for racing but I like the larger ones for flying.
December 24, 201213 yr My 3x24s @ 5sumthin x1080 My 120in @ 14sumthin x 1024 I prefer the big screen now.
December 24, 201213 yr I have 2 DELL 24 inchers @1920x1200. I plan on getting a thrid, same resolution but a different brand, the ASUS PA248Q What model of Dell monitors do you own? If you have U2412 you can't use them with ASUS PA248Q in Nvidia 2D surround due different sync polarity.
December 24, 201213 yr I have a DELL 2408WFP and a DELL 2407WFP bought a couple of years apart so the different versions. native res=1920x1200 would these work with the ASUS PA248Q , they are all 3 ISP I also read somewheres that the sync pol+_ was not important with the latest drivers? I can change the res of the 2 DELLS to portrait non-native 1080x1920, and a third (where native = 1920x1080) to "awquard" portrait 1080x1920; ...get the surround working,.... turn off the thrid out of wack screen (which cannot be rotated physically), ....and voila, I got the surround to workaround with 2 screens (visually anyway) and it is quite nice, crispy. either strectched over 2 windows or full screen. Stretch looks better though. In spot view, the plane is centered in the middle of the second monitor, not in the bezel which happens with the alternative 2 monitor SoftTH approach. With the third monitor turned off while using fsx, I get by without seeing the the lopsided dumby third screen, All these twists work in landscape too but I really like the look of pseudo-2(3rd hidden) portraits. There is some minor elongated gauge effects, but they are not noticeable at all in 2 stretched windows. At best I can "click" buttons in both windows which u cannot do with SoftTH method (only primary gpu-head)
December 24, 201213 yr Extremely nice setup, James ! Are you in VC mode or 2D fixed views here ? December 24, 201213 yr What model of Dell monitors do you own? If you have U2412 you can't use them with ASUS PA248Q in Nvidia 2D surround due different sync polarity. DELL 2408WFP and a DELL 2407WFP
December 24, 201213 yr I have a DELL 2408WFP and a DELL 2407WFP, would these work with the ASUS PA248Q. These have the same sync polarity (according to these sources): http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/MONITORS/ PA248 Series User Guide for English Edition - 3.4 Supported operating modes But there is small difference in vertical frequency: 60.0 Hz for 2407WFP, 2408WFP and 59.95 Hz for PA248Q. I don't know if such small difference makes matter. I also read somewheres that the sync pol+_ was not important with the latest drivers? Are you sure that you have read that in relation to Nvidia 2D surround mode? Nvidia sources still states that sync polarity must be the same. That match to my knowledge about method of creating image, splitting it and sending signals for three monitors working in "span" mode.
