December 25, 201213 yr Thanks, Manny. You are using the same principle as George T. As you say, the fix is mostly not too complicated. But without it, Nvidia surround view is unusable in FSX, IMO. I wish all Avsim staff, members and contributors a Very Merry Christmas! John
January 18, 201313 yr Author Hi Guys So, after an extended Christmas break, I finally had 4+ hours tonight to mess about with this and try out a few things.. I first checked for any newer drivers, and found NVidea had a new 310.90 driver released at the end of December, so though I would try that... That didn't solve it. In fact, if anything, it got even worse, I had display problems right from the second windows started loading which only got worse once windows had booted.. Found 2 new BIOS updates for the system-board, tried those, didn't solve anything, but didn't make it worse. Tried unplugging the DP connected screen leaving only 2 screens plugged in directly to the DVI-I and DVI-D sockets, both remaining screens are using DVI sockets, and now, all I get is "No signal" on the primary screen and "Out of range" on the second screen.. I can boot into safe mode, no prob's. If I use safe mode to totally remove all the NVidea software, then reboot, both screens come on and work in basic driver mode, but then windows auto installs an NVidea driver and the problems all start again. Once rebooted, I then get a "Your screen is not connected to an NVidea GPU" message when trying to load the NVidea software, so then I reboot and it goes right back to "No signal / Out of range".. I can hear windows loading and when the power button is pushed, windows shuts down properly. Seems no matter which of the 3 driver versions I use, nothing works properly... Doin my head in it is... £300 card, and it cant even run 2 little 19" widescreens at 1300 x 768 each over DVI  I've run out of ideas... Any of you guys ever had any problems like this with an NVidea card? How did you fix it? Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
January 18, 201313 yr You need dual link DP to DVI connectors,(DVI-D), HDMI only for the fourth monitor, simply will not work with DP to DVI-I converters. Setup; use 2 x dual link DP to DVI converters and remaining DVI-D connector for your 3 screens. dual link has a full bank of pins, the single link has 2 separate banks of pins. That is the recommended way to set up. GTX670 runs surround very well. Ron.
January 18, 201313 yr No problems here either, best value for your money is the 670. Got a 4gb version for $389, changed my simming world coming from a Ati 6970 2gb. This is 3 x19" monitors running at 3840x1024. January 18, 201313 yr I am not using an active DP cable... I am using a cheap passive DP-->DVI cable. You need the expensive active DP cable only for 3D. for 2D surround and 4th monitor its not necessary I've run out of ideas... On the monitor there should a switch/button to select the source type (VGA vs DVI etc)...are you selecting it correctly... if you have it set as VGA and you have a dVI cable going in, its going to say 'no signal. January 18, 201313 yr I am not using an active DP cable... I am using a cheap passive DP-->DVI cable. Me neither, just a cheap $10 StarTech.Com DP -> DVI, works great. That is the recommended way to set up. Hi Ron, thanks for the help, but I'm not, nor have ever tried to use the HDMI at all... Nor am I trying to run 4 monitors either.. I'm struggling just to run 2 monitors from the cards DVI ports. Have you even seen the back of the EVGA GTX670? It doesn't have 2 DP sockets at all. On the monitor there should a switch/button to select the source type (VGA vs DVI etc)...are you selecting it correctly... if you have it set as VGA and you have a dVI cable going in, its going to say 'no signal. I know.. Have only been working in I.T 20 years so far, but thanks anyway :( I have it plugged in exactly as Glen does in his picture.... The DP to DVI adapter is the passive Startech one too, same as his. I unplugged the DP completely too, leaving only the 2 DVI cables, and still have problems. I might try to remove all the drivers again in safe mode and roll it back to the 306.97 driver version and then disable the auto-update.. Cant believe what a piece of crap this expensive card seems to be, and to think I almost bought an ATI  Cant find any user manual on the NVidea website either on cables/connectors, as it came with nothing but the drivers on the CD Starting to think its time to return it to Amazon.. January 18, 201313 yr See my thread about an EVGA 660 O'Clocked, Could be more than a coincidence. Richard.
January 19, 201313 yr I also read on the net about people having a lot of problems with the 670 card, that's why i went with the 680. Hope I don't get the same problems as you Richard as that'g going back to amazon as well....
January 19, 201313 yr Author See my thread about an EVGA 660 O'Clocked, Could be more than a coincidence. Richard. Hi Rich, thanks mate, a link would be really useful? Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂

Have you changed monitor setup from 2D surround mode to normal mode with two monitor configuration BEFORE you unplugged third one (before closing system)? It is important you have proper settings before you shutdown system and run again with two monitors only. What may be helpful - try to run your configuration starting from simplest setup: - connect only one monitor to DVI-I port being sure that 2D surround mode was ealier disabled, you shouldn't have any problem with that if your card is OK. - then if one monitor configuration is working shutdown system and connect second monitor to DVI-D port and run computer. If your card and monitors are OK you will get both monitors working. Then go to Nvidia panel to sections "set multiple displays", "change resolution" to make adjustments if necessary. It must be working or your graphics card is damaged or monitors are incompatible/damaged.
January 19, 201313 yr Author I un-installed all the NVidea software, unplugged that 3rd screen from the DP port, then tried it again, which is when I now get the no signal and "Out of range"... The problems start from the second the nVidea drivers get installed. No drivers = all 3 screens work NVidea drivers, all 3 go mental, fragmented and crash Latest NVidea drivers on 2 screens = No signal and out of range I cant even get as far as configuring anything at all now, let alone loading FSX.. Cant get a windows Desktop with the nvidea drivers/software installed. @ Rich... Thanks mate... Could throw me a link or 2 somewhere along the line? Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
January 19, 201313 yr Sorry RCIT but since my last I've got egg on my face due an own goal so, my harsh words should be ignored and the problem was not related. Apologies to all concerned. Regards, Richard.
January 19, 201313 yr Cant get a windows Desktop with the nvidea drivers/software installed. As you told you are IT experienced then it seems to be hardware (card) related problem or something went wrong with Nvidia driver instalation. If you can replace (borrow) graphics card with different one it should help you a lot with diagnose of the problem.
