January 4, 201313 yr At the risk of sounding totally stupid. But I can't find the autopilot for this plane. Set flight level and heading but can't find the heading, altitude and etc. for the autopilot. Please enlighten this poor soul. Thank You. Bill XPlane 10.11
January 5, 201313 yr Hey Bill. That's partially my fault. I have a TODO list right in front of me with the King Air autopilot stuff on it. The autopilot controls that are there are between the seats on the floor pedestal. They could stand with a "2nd look" though and I'll be getting to that shortly and you should see it in a x-plane update soon. Tom Kyler Laminar / IXEG
January 5, 201313 yr In the FSX version you typically need to retract the left seat armrest to view the AP controls. For the FSX model someone created a fix that placed hotspots for heading bug and course adjustments in the "customary" locations on the HSI. I now use TrackIr5 and that makes it a bit easier to look down and make adjustments if I go the King Air realism routine. If I bypass the King Air realism that haunts me I use my Saitek Multipanel (as shown in the photo below), which is mounted to the top of my Saitek Pro Flight Cessna Yoke. The Multipanel provides all of the AP functions, selected per the knob on the left and adjusted by the knob just to the right of the display on the Multipanel. January 5, 201313 yr Author Thanks guys, Looks like I'm not totally stupid after all. Tom I'll take a look and see if I can get to them. If not I'll wait for the next release of XPlane. FPPILOT, I have the Saitek Yoke, Peddles, Throttles, and Engine startup, lights and Landing gear panel mounted on the top of the Yoke. Don't have the Mulipanel. Bill
January 6, 201313 yr Hey Bill. That's partially my fault. I have a TODO list right in front of me with the King Air autopilot stuff on it. Tom Kyler Laminar / IXEG Tkyler, It is great to see that you are looking at the King Air, which is, I think, one of the best of the default x-plane 10 aircraft. Using TrackIR, I have no problem finding the auto-pilot controls, but note that the rudder pedals and toe brakes seem to show no animation upon application. It seems that a few adjustments would make this a "shining example" of what x-plane can do with a default aircraft. Also, is there something that can be done with the terrible screeching when brakes are applied or turns are made in most all x-plane models. It just isn't natural. Thanks for listening. January 7, 201313 yr Also, is there something that can be done with the terrible screeching when brakes are applied or turns are made in most all x-plane models Hi John, There is a setting to tone it down or turn it off but can't remember where at the moment. It's a slider in the sound options I believe.
January 15, 201313 yr I put in more autopilot controls on this latest beta 11 release that just came out. In the current beta 11, the engine might LOOK like it won't start, but it will. you just have to turn on the fuel levers to lo idle before starting...and then you have to hold down the starter a really long time....BUT.... I have fixed that for yet the NEXT beta release....12...whenever it may come out. The starter model was revised recently and the one engine that kind of got left out in the cold are the free-turbines. Because the power / gas generator sections are decoupled, they really require their own special model...which I suspect will be done at some time in the future; however....for the beta 12 release as yet to be determined when it will come out, I have tweaked and tweaked the starter model in the King Air as best as I think I can get it and it still be "in the ballpark" When you hit the starter, N1 spools up...prop starts to turn about 10%....and then you can kick in the fuel over 12% or so...engine winds up to lo idle @59%....hi idle at 70%. Autopilot seems to be working well now. I put in a yaw damper, FD button and AP button and also a pitch button. Tom Kyler Laminar / IXEG

January 18, 201313 yr Tom, Thanks for the King Air improvements. The rudder/toe brake animations really make the interior and the auto-pilot works great. I hadn't really looked at the outside that much, but just realized that there are no landing/taxi lights on the exterior. Also, the "gear down" light beside the gear lever, does not work. Great as it is, but if you are just playing around sometime..... Thanks, John John Wingold
January 18, 201313 yr Than you John, I'll eyeball the gear down light. We have the nice improvement in engine starting coming up in the next beta so I'll do another once over. If you find anything else, please post it here. Both the landing and taxi lights are on the nose gear. You'll see these with the gear down. TK
January 18, 201313 yr Oops - missed that. Thanks for your attention to our petty desires. John John Wingold
January 21, 201313 yr Tom, One more thing (at least for now) that would be nice. When adjusting the bearing bug, is there any way to know what the setting is when it is off scale, ie, if you are flying 360 and move the bug to 120, is there any way to see the bug setting before nearing the new bearing? Thanks, John John Wingold
January 21, 201313 yr John, On the panel, to the left of the EHSI is a button labeled "HSI MODE" with 2 settings....ROSE and ARC. This button toggles between the two modes and the ROSE mode will display a full circular compass and you can see the AP heading bug for the full 360 degrees. It defaults to the arc mode when you load the plane though. TomK
