January 8, 201313 yr Hello to the Avsim Community, I didn´t know if I should/could open a new topic as I know there are many topics covering similar issues. But the thing is that I tried to sort out my problem by reading all those topics and applying the hints given to the people with stutter problems and it didn´t really sort out my problems. So, I thought maybe I forgot something/ did something wrong and meanwhile I can´t really see the trees through the forest. I have a stutter problem, mostly when turning and somtimes when going straight and looking at the secenery over the wings . My FPS are constantly at 29 to 30. I followed Word Not Allowed´s tweaks, as you can see in my cfg. The nvidia inspector seetings are exactly like proposed by Word Not Allowed. The results after tweaking are really nice (thank you thank you thank you, Word Not Allowed!) and I´m quite happy but the stutter problem makes the overall experience a bit disapointing, expecially as I thought my system should be able to handle it better :( Is there maybe something I missed? January 8, 201313 yr Hello, I had this problem a long time ago also! Don't use exernal framerate limiter!! Then I used the setup from Word Not Allowed! Very inportant to follow this guide! January 23, 201313 yr Turn off HyperThreading in BIOS if you are going to use AM=14. Delete FSX.CFG. Re-start FSX. What is your FPS? Stutters?? Dave

January 23, 201313 yr I f you have not changed anything and you get 17 FPS, then something is wrong with your computer. I get 12 FPS on a old Dell P4 with XP32. Check your DRAM timing (maybe try X.M.P.). Remove the OC. Video drivers? Dave
January 24, 201313 yr To the OP, I think that while looking at your PC specs, impressive as they are, I don't see how any one can pass an opinion as to whether your PC's performance is acceptable or not, or as to why you are getting stutters without a lot more info than what you have provided. For instance, what aircraft is loaded? What airport (addon or default?) is loaded? What are the AI % settings and what AI is it (UT2, MTX etc.)? and what other addons are being loaded? Weather, ATC etc, etc, etc. Regards, Rick Hobbs

Weather, ATC etc, etc, etc. Just tested it again with a fresh cfg and had stabile 30 fps (locked) in an not urban area in the FTX Europe scenery. (Without tweaking) Guess it would even go higher without locking the fps. But the picture was really "troubled and shaky" though. Lot´s of small stutters. After Word Not Allowed´s tweaks it´s going really smooth except the stutters when turning. I am only flying in: FTX Europe FTX AU SP4 FTX New Zealand North & South I am having the same problem in all sceneries, however it is worse in the New Zealand North and South sceneries. Just using 4 planes: A2A P51 Civ with Accusim Realair Legacy Lotus L39 Milviz T38 all 4 with Accufeel v. 2 REX Essentials & OD No traffic or other addons. All of them have the same stutters when turning. Going straight is always pretty smooth. Thank you and regards! Ole R.
January 24, 201313 yr I was having the same problem recently. Mostly when moving my head with track IR. My fsx.cfg is very similar to yours. I somehow managed to fix it by turning cloud draw distance to minimum, upping FFTF to .15, and setting TBM to 100. Not sure which one of these did the trick since I applied all of them at the same time, but smooth as silk now. I have an i5 3570k 4.3 ghz and GTX 560. I can run most settings on high and 2048 clouds. No traffic. Matt C. Matt
January 24, 201313 yr A new cfg should be locked at 20, un-locking should be 130+ (default flight). Are you sure you are deleting the right cfg or are you changing it? TBM=40, try 80 and 120. Dave

January 24, 201313 yr Hi Dewback, As you can see my specs are almost identical to yours. I've always had the minor "microstutters" too. I think most people probably wouldn't notice them since are they are relatively minor, but they do bug me a lot sometimes. Our systems have essentially the best possible "subsystems" to run FSX (fast RAM, fast storage, PCIe 3.0, etc) so at this point we just have to chalk it up to one of FSX's many quirks; like Word Not Allowed said, they can be greatly minimized but something you always have to live with. From my testing and stuff it seems like the stutters are mostly related to the way the scenery engine loads autogen assets in its different detail/LOD radius levels. That's why, as Word Not Allowed also said, it is worse with autogen set to Very Dense or Extreme.

I think I am correct in saying that you can change the sliders in-game, but if you do the fsx.cfg has some unrelated values that will change as well, such as texture max load and LOD radius. You will have to manually edit the config back to your desired values when changing sliders in-game. Matt
January 25, 201313 yr I have a problem with stutters when fps drop below the monitor screen refresh rate. The Vsync setting in Nvidia Inspector helped smooth most situations out, though. If you haven't tried this yet and you have Inspector, go to the FSX profile and under Vsync select 1/2 refresh rate. Then in FSX set your fps limiter to 30. Make sure you don't have an external limiter running. Now my only problem is stutters below 30fps. But when it's matching 30 or above, its perfectly smooth. January 25, 201313 yr I expected a new cfg, with NO changes and at default flight, to be 20 FPS (not 17). Then move the frames to "unlimited". What is your FPS? Should be over 120. If not, you need to fix your computer before doing anything to FSX. If the FPS is good, bring your sliders up to max, one at a time, to see the effect they have on FPS. Water Low 2x (4 in cfg), no shadows or lens flare, Ansiotropic. Set your monitor res. Your FPS should still be above 70 FPS with FSX setup. Now setup Inspector per Word Not Allowed's Guide. Should not hurt your FPS. Now, the tweaks. Lock your frames at 30. Fly around Friday Island to check for stutters and flashing textures. What does it look like? Dave
