August 12, 200421 yr I'm a big fan of "shooting an ILS", and hitting the glideslope as perfectly as I can. Wouldn't it be great to NOT HAVE TO STOP the simulator to look at a map view to get an ILS frequency. Yes, I know that you can write them down before a flight, but sometimes I want to change my destination enroute and fly somewhere else.Is there a program or something that you know of that would give me ILS frequencies without stopping the sim? I remember a gauge called runway gauge, but I would hate reconfiguring all my panels for that gauge. What do the rest of you do?
August 12, 200421 yr Another option is to look them up ahead of time! For example if you are flying to a US airport, you can get all the approach charts free from http://www.airnav.com/ International ones are also available. Personally I went and bought myself a small laser printer, and whenever I fly to an airport, I print out all the appropriate charts and stick them in a binder. It is really neat to be able to fly an approach and have the paper charts right there at hand. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
August 12, 200421 yr Isn't that dumb of me....I use the GPS in FS9 all the time, and I really must not have explored it sufficiently. I'll check throughout its info or waypoint areas to see if that solves my problem. You mean all ILS frequencies of nearby airports are in there somewhere....wow!
August 12, 200421 yr There's also a runway info gauge in the library... [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
August 12, 200421 yr FSNavigator is really great for this. I set it so that my aircraft position doesn't show and simply use it as a nav aid and navigation chart, for the entire world!David
August 12, 200421 yr >You mean all ILS frequencies of nearby>airports are in there somewhere....wow!Yes, theye are. And they can even be automatically loaded for you. However I am not sure whether Microsoft's version has it but Reality's 530 certainly does since it works as real thing.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
August 12, 200421 yr Speaking of Reality XP, you may consider reading this:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_post...p?TID=8327&PN=1Hope this helps!
August 13, 200421 yr FS Nav will also allow you to look at the needed freq. I use a second monitor and simply role the mouse over the field and or the particular runway and the data pops up. If you have one monitor you can shrink the FS NAv view down and drag it where ever you like. It is just a think I tend to use out of habbit. Looks like there are a bunch of ways to "skin the same cat".I hope it works out for you.Mark.
August 13, 200421 yr Something else you could try is download Virtual Pilot Network located in the Avsim FS2004 Utilities section. Then you can access airnav.com from the kneeboard during flight without interuption.Jimmy
August 13, 200421 yr THAT SOUNDS LIKE A FANTASTIC IDEA! I hadn't thought about that, and I'm off to trying it. Thanks,
August 16, 200421 yr Stan:I also like the freeware runway Info Gauge by Ernie Alston. If you have FS Panel Studio, you can easily add the gauge to all your IFR-equipped panels anel resize and position it anywhere you please (see my atttached screenshots). Plus, you can edit the database with the ILS information of ANY airport that has one. I use it in all of the panels I've released for FS 2002 and FS 2004. Otherwise, send me the panel.cfg and main bitmap of the panel you'd like to have the gauge in, and I'll modify the code to include Ernie's gauge wherever you like. Because of copyright restrictions, you have to download and install the gauge files into FS 2004 yourself. Just do a search under Ernie Alston in the Gauges section of FS2002 or 2004.Regards, http://www.2decker.com/media/solent1-2.JPGAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MDhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88080.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88081.jpg PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
August 16, 200421 yr Author Alex:Will FS Panel Studio read all panels and gauges?Like you, I use RWYINFO in just about all my panels as well as fuelstat, GS/TAS, fsmeteo, Radar, timers, number of shortcuts, etc. I still use cfgedit for these purposes on many panels, but there are some which it will not read. Where cfgedit works (almost all), it is an excellent utility as well. I have discovered that in some cases it corrupts some of the existing gauges in the panel (ballons to enlarged). In such cases, I make a copy of the panel, rename it and go ahead and add the desired gauges. After moving all the added gauges to the desired locations, I then simply copy those line items from the panel.cfg of my renamed panel and paste them into the panel.cfg of my permanant panel. The corruption is gone and everything is as desired.I will take a peek (link?) at FS Panel Studio. Thanks for the info.RTH
