April 7, 201313 yr Author To bring up this old topic, a week or so ago, the RTE archives revived some old news footage for 45 years ago from the Tuskar Rock crash. This crash happened when I was all of 4 years old, probably one of my earliest memories of aviation. There's only a few clips of actual airplanes in it, but still quite nostalgic, particularly for the Irish and possibly British members of the forums who were around then. http://www.rte.ie/archives/2013/0325/378263-45-years-since-aer-lingus-crash/ Regards, Ró. April 7, 201313 yr Wow, Ro, you have evoked memories for me as I used to catch those Viscounts from LHR after I had booked my ticket with the Aer LIngus office, in if my memory serves me right, in Regent Street, when travel agents(i.e. bukcet shops) let alone online booking were not even thought of. I used to finish work on a Friday and catch a flight to Dublin, then back on Sunday. I think later on I flew BAC-111s. I now recall that news as my friends in Dublin were quite concerned about me flying and urged me to catch the 'cattle boat' , the B&I ferry, from Holyhead instead. Rick Almeida

Indeed, made many Irish nervous about flying for a while, it was weeks in the news, in particular because the investigation lasted so long and never found a definitive answer, still to this day the jury is out on what caused it. Hard to believe that was 45 years ago, seems like no time really... I never got a chance to fly on the viscounts myself, I think they left the fleet around 1972, first time I got to fly was on one of those flights we used do with the 707 from Dublin down to Shannon for kids, first time I saw a flight deck, think I was about 8/9 years old then then... ^_^ The 1-11 came in around 1965 IIRC, they were great aircraft, real work horses... April 7, 201313 yr Ro, I'm banjaxxed if I can remember the name of that black-suited suave presenter on that 747 video you posted. I used to see him on the B&W tv programs on RTE before Gay Byrne became a legend but cannot recall his name. EDIT Found his name rhs of the video info panel. Rick Almeida

Regards, Ró. Edit: LOL, beat me to it, Cathal O'Shannon, at least I got the surname right, don't know why I thought it was with a J LOL... He died a few months ago IIRC, it was on the news I think...
