January 20, 201313 yr Author So would I have to save the C and F drive seperately then if I have a major issue I just reload C then F? I believe that's true, but an Acronis expert may know better.
January 20, 201313 yr hi megs yes that's the way i do it..you must have C: as it has your CFG files.save them at the same time, just in case you add anything. I have the same drive assignments as you C: and F; .both backed up to a seperate 1TB drive.actually have about 7 different backups including one with a full Prepare3d install.also a RTM of FSX. this has saved me days of reinstalling. steve REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
January 20, 201313 yr Windows 7 has a free Image Restore that works perfect. I have a 100MB Backup partition on my 1TB Data drive. I use the reapair disk to re-format my C drive and do a image restore. If it is over one month old, I do a Windows Update. Seperate drives require a seperate image back-up. Dave
January 20, 201313 yr I have heard of Win 7 can do the same thing.. Except I have heard of problems once you initiate the Win 7 version that it starts slowing the system down. So I continued with the Acrnois since Acronis is something I have used to restore before... Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
January 20, 201313 yr Author You have to decide between having a solution which automatically monitors/backs up the system and allows you to restore to an up to the minute checkpoint (but will impose an additional load on the system while it is running) or one where you choose when to take backups (which can be done when the system is idle, so no impact) but which will only restore to your last saved version, which may not include your latest changes. I generally take a backup once a month if there are no significant changes. I also (try to) keep a backup of any changes I make, as well as a change log.
January 20, 201313 yr Hi Dave my SSD C drive has a partition of 100 MB does that change anything when mirroring? http://fs2crew.com/banners/Banner_FS2Crew_MJC_Supporter.png Wayne HART
January 20, 201313 yr I make a full backup of all my drives, OS, FSX and the drive with all my software on, about every month. In between, I log all any changes I make or addons I add, in case I need to do a restore and then can't remember what changes I had made since the last backup. January 21, 201313 yr 8888, No, unless you made the partition and assigned it a drive letter. My SSD is my C drive with OS, D drive Vraptor with FSX, and 1TB E drive with data and F partition with image back-up. Dave
January 21, 201313 yr I have to ask.... Why not perform a system restore from a system restore point ? It is worth a try, if you are going to reinstall anyway.. you have nothing to loose. My favorite imaging apps? Drivesnapshot - single .exe no install required, Images a live system Terrabyte's Products - Paragon's Products - I gave up on Acronis after it installed services, apps and just way too much overhead ... - But it does work, just not my cup of tea..
