Default MS FSX : Vancouver Area

Hi guys,

I have just reinstalled my FSX and because I was battling with FSDT's vancouver, I wanted to see what it looked like, minus the addon airport.

Around this area I get pretty fluctuating performance [autogen tears, etc] that I just don't get anywhere else..

1) Has anyone got any experience with this?

2) Is it possible to replace the textures in this area [i don't really wanna do ORBX, but Ultimate terrain, or gex perhaps?]

Regarding #2, UTX Canada should take care of the details and GEX North America then adds the textures. But when it comes to just the Vancouver area, there also is FS Addon's Vancouver Plus V3.0.

Vancouver Plus 3.0 + Mesh + UTX

I live here and it looks pretty good, add in the orbx PNW and it's heaven

Does UTX perform better than default mesh?

Does UTX perform better than default mesh?

UTX doesn't add mesh, only roads, tracks, city landclass, water bodies, and stuff like soccer fields and such. For mesh you'll need to get another specialized addon, like FSGenesis.

UTX in principle should perform mostly the same as default FSX, but keep in mind that with more, and mroe accurate roads, you'll also get more road traffic, if enabled. For having 15% traffic on one road is still less traffic than 15% traffic on two roads.

GEX an improvement?

Battling with Vancouver, I had to restore my computer to pre CYVR because when it is installed couatl stops working and all FSDT and Flightbeam airports loose their buildings and ground textures. Paid $40 bucks and the airport is unusable. Looks good but can't have it installed. My suggestion is to try before you buy, fly from CYVR to another FSDT Airport to check the buildings are still there

UTX & GEX is are a great combination!

GEX an improvement?

Yes, it is, although you might just get OrbX PNW. That's probably the best for that region.

The PNW is a killer and beats up on your computer like there is no tommorow. There is a heck of alot of mountains, ocean, shorelines, and forests to draw. Thats why SEA and YVR tend to get negative remarks.

That said, I did a complete FSX reinstall recently, and maxed everything except the traffic and without addons, and watched my FPS and VAS with process explorer. I had 80 fps with my computer in a default aircraft. Then I installed FSDT CYVR. FPS still up around 50-60 and the VAS was great around 2GB.

Then I installed NGX and the VAS was up to 2.7GB and the FPS in CYVR FSDT was 25 or so. still pretty good. After installing ORBX PNW it dropped significantly. So I reduced the settings slightly. Made the textures for FSDT at 2048 and my cloud textures are only 1024. I get 20 fps now for the most part which is good enough for me because its pretty smooth.

So do all of kostas tweaks. Then run the clean install with default aircraft. Dont do anything else until you get very high fps. default scenery and default cessna should be high. Then work from there. This worked for me.

It can be had. Once you get it right, the area is incredible flying around.

I even run traffic now, but the road, and ships is way down to 5%.

Firstly, thank you for your kind and lengthy post.

I don't know it just seems like something is not right in that region. I disabled and removed orbx from there.

Maybe I'll wait till the next drive install comes around. Then do another test; staying clear of there until a solution is found or the above comes first.

Delete your fsx.cfg then back it up.

Load up a default aircraft like the cessna 172, no weather, and default scenery. make sure everything else is disabled. Your FPS should be quite high. If its not, then yes there is a problem. I doubt it as that is very vanilla.

Then do kostas tweeks. then check that scenario again.

Also start ramping up the scenery performance sliders. Again all this at default you should get high FPS. Your computer is similar to mine. There is no reason for it not to be high.

Then do as above posted.

FSX+Accel+GEX, new FSX.CFG, default flight, I get 130+ FPS. That's on a I7 975 Extreme, so I would think a Sandy Bridge, or Ivy Bridge, would be least that high, if not higher. With maxed sliders, I get 60 FPS.
