Which stress test (IBT, Prime95, etc.) did you run?

Also in CPU-Z what is your Core Voltage while running a stress test?

How do u tell if the cooler is seated correctly or not? If I need to resit it, do I need to first remove the thermal paste first? I have some good thermal paste which I was going to put on with my water loop. And what's auto volt?

I just set EVERYTHING to factory default, installed windows and all the testing stuff. Run the test.

When you remove the cooler look at the pattern of the paste, it'll show if the seating was incorrect.

Defaults would give you automatic setting og core voltage. Set manually.

I just went to the local computer store to get some lights for my case, I just asked them about this.

They firstly didn't know about delidding, and thought it was a whole load of crap.

But they say that temp is fine, because what I'm using (Prime95) overstresses the CPU anyway, so that temp is fine.

I'm still a bit edgy though, will check the sitting of the CPU when I get home. If my cooler wasn't sat properly, what should the thermal paste pattern look like?

Regarding the core voltage, it's between 1.256s to 1.264v. I've just changed the thermal paste (Arctic MX4) and still using stock cooler, it's still running at about same temp. So not sure why that is.

When I get some time I will run the WC loop through it. But as it, that's strange how it's that high in temp no?

First off anyone who says 90C isn't hot or a concern is dumb.

That's FAR TOO HOT in an idle condition.

Im a little confused though - you said at defaults idle it runs 90c but then you mentioned Prime 95 testing. When exactly are you seeing 90C?

With IB stock cooler idle all default bios you shouldnt see temps above 40C.

If you're really seeing 90C you need to make sure the HSF is seated against the CPU properly. Make sure the fan is actually spinning too.

I checked the factory voltage cause I don't run IB and yours is also too high if you're truly at idle. Stock vcore is like 1.0 - 1.1v with 3770K.

OK little clarity, UNDER LOAD Small FFT Prime95 is 90+C

But still 40+ on idle. Will check on that and report back.

Whew I can breathe now. It's better but not great. I wouldn't run things too hard until you get your water cooling kit. Or throw your old h100 on this build.

If it's v.27 of Prime95, then it's using AVX instructions and then yeah, it's perfectly normal to see those full load temps while stress testing on the stock cooler.

I mean it's to be expected that it will get really hot with AVX, but it's still hot. Just don't run stress tests until you have proper cooling installed

lol little correctuon there, my custom WC is sitting there, little hesitant to implement it.

I dont hv h100, I have NH-D14 lol

Prime95 v25.11. Does it make any difference?

Prime95 v25.11. Does it make any difference?

hmmm, that shouldn't be AVX... but whatever, don't run it anymore until you have your aftermarket cooler and don't worry

No single GPU draws that much power Brendan. You must have come across some total system consumption figures

Also, CPU OC adds another 50 -100W, nowhere near 250W

Can you please post a link to those reviews?

160-170W @5.0-5.2ghz vcore 1.45-1.5v , 150W @4.8 1.4v

Computer now built (still need tidying) and running a stress test on stock. The temperature went to the 90s without ANY OC.

Using default cooler and no delid, just want to see how it runs.

Is this normal? Or is my CPU not great?

According to Asus this is normal. I experienced the same temperatures when stress testing with Prime 95 v27.9. See my thread below for details.

http://forum.avsim.n...h-default-bios/

The default bios settings did not allow my CPU fan to reach full speed until the core temperatures were over 90C. Check your CPU fan speeds. After I adjusted the fan curve in the AI suite I was able to get my CPU fan up to 2150 rpm and the core temperatures dropped down to 85C in a 72.5 F (22.5C) temperature room. 85 C is still high but better than 95C. With FSX mark11 the core temperatures are 67C. This is all with the stock Intel air cooler. I just wanted to do some testing with the stock setup before I installed my Noctua cooler and started overclocking. I'm glad I did or I would have thought my Noctua cooler was at fault.

I believe you can make the same changes in the bios but have not tried that yet. If not you can just set your CPU fan to run at 100% RPM all the time in the bios.

What's the word with this build? Did you ever get your issues squared away?

Mostly, apart from the really high voltage and the fact I can't get the OC over 4.6GHz.  I was able to get it to 4.6GHz on a reasonably high voltage, but because I have a wonderful cooler, I am able to run that voltage (1.38 vcore) at or below 60C at load.

I've just spent some more to get an overclockable CPU (someone took it out and actually tested, reported to have < 1.1v on 4.5GHz), it's a 3570K.

I'm just going to sell my current 3770K off as it still has everything that came with it, warranty card everything.

Will report back how it goes after I swap the CPU.  Just a question, do I need to reinstall FS after a CPU swap?
