Good News from FlightBeam and KSFO

Featured Replies

The are planning to make a major update to KSFO to include making the taxilights compatible with DX10. Looks like many developers are getting on the DX10 bandwagon. A new Tower at KSFO is in the plans too.

Wonderful. I havn't tried DX10 yet, however It will probably be soon!

Thanks Jim; I purchased KPHX yesterday, with the expectation that Steve's DX10 Fixer would make it compatible, as it has done so with other airports: alas, 'twas not to be so.

Flightbeam's KPHX is not compatible with DX10.

While it works just in the day-time, the dawn, dusk and night ground textures are a glaring yellow or white.

This is a disappointment.

Mir - get working!

Hi Paul,

Seems to me if they make the taxi lights for KSFO compatible with DX10, they'll get to KPHX too. (Just trying to think logically  ). They are making a nice looking KIAD (Dulles International) too. Looking nice!

Best regards,

Jim

Yep, that's the info which Mir has given out.

This is one magnificent airport! Man - the detail and weathering is phenomenal! One of the best I have ever seen - it deserves the DX10 treatment!

Amen!

Cool! I've DX10 seems the best way to go so I'm happy one of my favorite airports is getting the treatment. And as the dev said "for free...of course"

Bad part? I was interested in seeing the upgrade and then to see a IAD in progress... Yet another $30 bucks to budget along with the 777, Dash 8, 747 2, FSLA320, PFPX, JFK upgarde... /sigh

I've never tried DX10. Is it worth it? Any screenies out there that show the diff?

I have made the switch but semi-permanently. If you like to fly around dawn, dust or night, many pay-ware airports do not work (see the thread above). What it offers you is smoother flights and no OOM. For me, I have elected to turn down the sliders, using default texture to manage the OOM issue with DX9, until more developers fix their airports. I just have to many add-ons that I paid money for and not having them working in DX-10 is a pain. If my current "turn my sliders down" solution still give me stability issue, the I may declare the heck with it and switch permanently.

The main difference is the fact it provides shadows in the cockpit. DX10 has more capabilities than DX9 but the FSX developers did not finish the coding to make it fully compatible with FSX. Therefore, they called it Preview. SteveP, with is Shader10 fixes, has fixed most of the anomalies discovered after DX10 Preview was released with SP2/Acceleration. IMHO, it really is superior to FSX, DX9. It uses more of the capabilities of your video card too. Steve is in the process of improving DX10 even more. I have had it enabled since Steve first released the Shader10 fix and I use the same settings used for DX9. So, if I ever want to revert back to DX9, I simply remove the DX10 Preview checkmark and I'm flying in DX9. You should at lest try it. It is the future. DX9 is the really old technology that was developed prior to 2007. DX10 was just coming into the tech world when FSX and Acceleration were released.

Best regards,

Jim
