For our beloved PMDG 737NGX via Amazon.com. Mike Ray wrote a great beginners book that helps people quickly get up to speed on the very basics needed to fly this beauty.

Head over and see if my review was worth the time it took to write it.

Not really. Quickly turned into a list of recommendations for FS newbies than a detailed review of the book (which I have by the way)

Newbies!!!

Oddly enough which is what I am!!!

No ouch :P ... 20 year veteran of boards ... if you put something out there ... no matter how begnin ... you better have the skin tough enough to handle honest answers.

Sorry I didn't mean it to come across like that. I was expecting a bit more than what I read but not knocking your effort in any way

Pity it's not out on the Kindle yet

Get the PDF version and copy it across. I have it on my ipad

No worries ... you actually illustrated a serious drawback with the review ... a section on to whom the content of the review would be most useful. I updated the post ... I appreciate the feedback!

What an honor it is to be the first to review this book ... I would give it six starts but Amazon only allows five!

Let me start off with the negative ... I've never seen so many typos and grammatical errors in one book ... sometimes even on one page.

Then you did the same in the first sentence of your review, ha ha! :P

I corrected that ... thanks ... that helped a little bit to not making me look like an idiot

I'm reading the .pdf version perfectly on my Kindle Fire. I think I've been using the free version of "Open Office Lite". Works beautifully.

Cpt. Mike Ray's book is good for beginners, but also works up to advanced users with a "Level 2" that you can go directly to, if you have experience with the NGX.

It is very detailed. Enough so that it could be used for real pilots.

I have the pdf version and am really enjoying reading it, even with all the grammar errors and typos.

The information contained in the book is what I really value, not how well the words are spelled.

Simple mistakes that are easily overlooked when you consider the volume of in depth content this book offers and the richness and quality of the information provided.

At the same time though, I really wonder how whoever edited and proofread it could let so many errors slip by.

The information is professional, the editing job, not so much.

I have the new 737NG book also and I purchased the A320 full color version a couple of months ago for the new Airbus X Extended. I'm guessing the typos are getting overlooked because they are probably graphics and not text as such so the average spell checker does not see them as misspelled words. That doesn't let the editors off the hook though.

I did a mini review of Capt. Mike Ray's Airplane Stuff book as part of one of my first Avsim.com reviews. I told him we had several things in common. He was a Naval Aviator, I was in the Navy, He was a United Airlines Captain, I have flown on United, we are both old farts with grandchildren and both thoroughly enjoy desktop flight simulation. The more realistic immersion the better.

Highly recommended.
