767-400?

Featured Replies

I like the 767-400.I have made several trips to and from Honolulu riding on -400s. If I had the skill-sets and time I would put one together for anyone who enjoy flying it. For now the best I have been able to do for my own interest is to combine the default 777 panel with the model by POSKY made a few years ago.

...What's wrong with people having this proprietary feeling over the PMDG forum?...

Thank you!!!! I said that long time ago. I understand PMDG has quality stuff, and it's worth the money, but they have all these spokesmen on here who jump on the opportunity when a new person who is enjoying an aircraft that PMDG made, thinks, "hey it would be cool if they made this" and then posts and asks his question the peanut gallery starts in on the guy like he commited a sin or something. The first thing to remember ...

This forum is a community. Of course people who spend time here feel a sense of ownership. Anybody who lives in a small town will tell you that they will give a neighbours kid a telling off they see the kid throw litter on the street. If it is your first time in town, you just see a grouch giving out to a kid, and that can seem mean, or even aggressive, but if you live there, you know it is to the benefit of everyone, including the kid.

Good manners suggest that when you are in a new situation, you spend more time observing the locals then commenting on them, at least until you know what makes them tick. If you see a really ugly statue outside the town hall, instead of telling the locals they have a really ugly statue (duh, they know!) try asking them about the statue instead. In the same way on this forum, instead of blurting "wouldn't it be great if PMDG did..." why not take a moment to see if you were the first person to ever have that thought, and how the community reacted to the last person to suggest exactly the same thing. It could save you a lot of embarrasment while reducing the irritation levels for people who have been around here for a while.

Paul Smith.

Well said, Smiffy! I have to admit to being quite annoyed at the amount of time I have to read through pointless posts (as far as they add to my technical understanding of the aircraft and software)in order to find the gems that are surely there, somewhere.

Cheers, Richard

With all due respect both of you (and others) that seem put off by this thread read the title and I will assume all the content in the post yet I have read about annoyance, irritation and general dissatisfaction with the OP, we all know PMDG's history.

Why would anyone entertain the idea of replying to a post like this in such a negative way. If you haven't anything nice to say or do not wish to help then do not reply, simple.

Well, for what it is worth, I would buy a PMDG 767-400 in a heartbeat. I would enjoy it much more than a DC-6, that is for sure, a plane which I have zero intention of purchasing.

The idea of a PMDG 767 always was an appealing prospect to me, as the Level D one really really shows its age.

Thanks to the guys defending me a bit on this. I realize that people don't like requests, but if nothing is ever requested, don't you think they may run out on things to do and not know where the community stands on stuff? I know not having a new post every week about a new aircraft that we think pmdg should develop isn't something we'd want because it would just spam the forums. But if you are really going to get that upset about some post on requesting something that its been months since someone has requested something, then you have some control issues. Leave it to the actual moderators to be strict on this stuff. Of you have a problem with it, then just say there have been many posts about this and provide a link to the post in which you saw it. There is no reason to say go away because stuff like that will begin to hurt the community. I personally feel that it would be a good idea for someone to at least work on a -400er and I'm sure pmdg would do it best. Thanks again for the guys not hating on me, and for the non-mod guys, chill. You aren't doing the community a favor by kicking them out and saying no. There is a nice way to say no.

I have found that the following always works:

...

Both of your proposed solutions, while effective in their stated aims, require that the regular forum users adapt their behaviour to suit the occaisional users and visitors. The result is informative and inoffensive, and it is perfect for a help desk forum.

But this is not a help desk. PMDG have a seperate channel for handling support tickets and it is not this forum.

This, in my opinion, is a community of individuals, who over time have grown to know and respect each other. There is some amazing expertise available, and there is, again in my opinion, tremendous advantages to fostering and encouraging those experts to share their wisdom here by maintaining a community they are comfortable with.

One of the definitions of a community or society is the collective willingness to abide by and enforce a common set of standards. Obviously, if someone does not know what those standards are, then it is difficult for them to abide by them, but equally, if someone does not demonstrate a willingness to even try to find out how a community operates, then it will be very difficult for the community to accept that individual.

You can argue that any individual has the right to join a community, and I would support you, but I would also argue that the individual who wants to join a community has a responsibilty to at least acknowledge and respect the communites standards, even if they have reasons not to conform to them.

Paul Smith.

Great business case to divert resources to model an airliner in service with 2 or 3 airlines. Do it PMDG!!!

I would have missed a lot if they hadn't modelled the MD-11 ...

You missed all that cargo ops flying.

You missed all that cargo ops flying.

To me it's about 'flightdeck experience'.

The MD-11 is quite unique the way the flightdeck is designed and operated. So I appreciate PMDG recreating it even though only some 200 pieces got sold in the rw. (Many of them were passenger versions first, which got converted into cargo versions later for commercial reasons.)

I'm wondering what would be the outstanding experience of a 764 flightdeck. Something PMDG would have to squeeze in somewhere between the flightdecks of the 744, the 763 and the 777.

Not much room to get that in, I guess. This reasoning works better for me than a decision based on only 2 airlines operating the 764 ...

It has almost the same flightdeck as the 777.

Brendan H

It seems to me, Brendan, even though our arguments may differ, none of us wants a 764 from PMDG these days.

It would have been a completely different story, IMO, if 'that particular 763 developer' had had the opportunity to model a 764 some time ago, with no 777 around or on the horizon for FSX ...
