March 10, 201313 yr It's a shame that MS did not add a section to the SDK to explain the scenery.cfg file and it's structure See the document named "Terrain Config File.doc" in the Terrain SDK. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
March 10, 201313 yr See the document named "Terrain Config File.doc" in the Terrain SDK. regards, Joe Hi Joe: IIUC, you were referring to: [FSX SDK install path]\SDK\Environment Kit\Terrain SDK\Scenery Configuration File.html ...which can be opened in one's default web browser by double-clicking it in "Computer" aka Windows Explorer ? GaryGB My bad, I posted for the FS9 SDK. Both sims scenery.cfg files are the same. regards, Joe [edit] I just checked your path, Gary, and have no such html file. I am using FSX/A and have the appropriate SDK. In my root SDK folder I have fsxsdk.chm which does the same thing, launches the SDK documentation in a compiled help window. March 10, 201313 yr IF you have installed any addons, there could be a backup of your old scenery.cfg. They may have been renamed look for it.. On the other hand if you need the default scenery.cfg, you should find one in your primary fsx folder. copy that over to the folder where you deleted the scenery.cfg folder Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 10, 201313 yr Now and then when addressing an "overall topic" and any potential complications one might incur if one acts on certain info posted by other respondents in a thread, I inadvertently overlook directly answering the primary "question" the OP is asking (which I seem to have done here, to some extent).(Fixed a typo)- - - Bob - in a default install of FSX, Addon Scenery is immediately above Propellor Objects. By 'above' I mean 'nearer the top of the screen'. There are 115 default items altogether, and you should leave them as a group. Did you try renaming your scenery.cfg (to scenery.cfg.old, for example) and letting FSX build a new one during a restart? MikeW - - Hi Mike. Thanks. I did just that and before I had 175 layers in my Scenery.cfg file. After allowing a rebuild it made 120 layers and none of the sceneries I had in my Addon Scenery folder were recognized. The last layer was 120 and was Addon Scenery. I restored it back to the way it was an I regained all of my Addon Scenery files. Regards, Bob.- - In my own Scenery.Cfg from a FSX Acceleration installation, Addon Scenery is layer number #115, and is located immediately above "Propeller Objects", so it would seem that the number of default layer areas may vary with ones FSX installation type. [edit] - - Hi Joe: Thanks for the heads up on the SDK HTML docs path / file type dissimilarity. I have a hybrid folder chain retaining more than 1 revision of the SDK for comparison (some in a HTML format)...which I refer to now and then. I do have this file, though: [FSX SDK install path]\SDK\fsxsdk.chm I should probably refer to that path to the FSX SDK docs in the *.CHM file in the future to avoid confusing those with a default installation of the FSX SDK. Thanks again ! :-) GaryGB
