Video Card major issue with FSX!

Featured Replies

OK guys i got my new Radeon 7770 today, upgraded from a XFX 9500GT. However when I try fsx in the PMDG 737 I get same FPS, (15-19) in VC and the same problem that prompted me to buy a new gfx card, long waiting time for the ground textures too sharpen (blurry for about 10 seconds, till the textures are sharp, GEX). All in all there is absolutely no difference between the 9500GT and 7770. I also deleted the CFG (Bojote) and the same issue. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to reinstall FSX?

Thanks

Jonathon James

You would have been better off buying a good Nvidia card, Nvidia has always done better with FSX.

X-Plane also runs much better on Nvidias too

With all due respect, you did not answer my question. I purchased what I can afford at the moment and so far with other games im extremely pleased with it. However I was just simply asking if it is essential that i reinstall FSX

Jonathon James

What processor and speed are you using? FSX has always been more dependent on the processor and speed that the graphics card.

Phenom X6 1045T @ 2.7Ghz. Overclocking creates a bit of a problem due to my mobo tho

Jonathon James

I am currently using the 7770 and I have no complaints.30 fps in default areas in the NGX and about 22-28 fps in ORBX Europe at UK2000 airports. With OPUS running

What is your current 3d application settings for fsx inside your Catalyst Control Center ?

To be honest it may be more to do with your cpu then your gpu.

EDIT::

Also can you tell me what value you have in your .cfg for these entries?

LOD_RADIUS=

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=

I Just got the card a few hours ago and download the latest driver, never modified anything, not sure how to check it anyway. My fsx cfg is also default

Jonathon James

I think default FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 or someting like that. Try to change that to 0.15 and incease your LOD_RADIUS to 6.50000

If that is no help we'll start to look at Card settings

No you should not have to uninstall fsx but you really need a good video driver cleaner I recomend drivercleaner.net you need to clean out the nvidia driver big time and a good registry cleaning - you mention you started with a new fxg.cfg which is good so you probably do not have more than one entry in your cfg file so uninstall all video drivers use the cleaner and re-install ati that should do it and make sure after all of this you do not have 2 entry's for your ati card in your cfg. file.

Actually I uninstalled all amd and nvidia related items from add/remove programs, boot with safe mode, ran driver sweeper, remove the ati and nvidia extras that remained there, and then when the computer restarted, it always rebooted by itself in the starting windows screen. What went wrong? I had to do startup repair and restore for the system to come back on

Jonathon James

(uninstalled all amd and nvidia related items) you didnt uninstall any nvidia motherboard drivers right this sounds weird why would you run sweeper in safe mode you run driver cleaners right in windows well at least with drivercleanr.net you should get it not free but works great - you should be able to remove the video drivers then reboot and load a new install of your correct driver seems to be an issue with nvidia fighting ati driver, does the machine reboot properly now ? you need to clean that registry dont forget, you can use ccleaner its ok for free

Also you have done a restore all bets are off now thats not good especially with getting a stable fsx running

Jonathan: would you copy, then rename the copy as "Jon_fsx.txt", then attach it here using the "More reply Options" (bottom-right corner). This way we can give you back something which may make your "FSX Experience" a bit better - even to giving DX10 a shot, with it's much smoother ride.

There is rarely a single, easy one-line answer to getting a smooth, fast, graphically satisfying FSX: it usually takes some study and some work.

Ok thank you alot! By copy im guessing you mean my FSX CFG. I am also adding pictures to show what i mean. This is with a Default Fsx cfg. With a default cfg, i also experience, flickering and flashing of textures, something i used to encounter with the 9500GT and Bojote Tweak on

The first Pic shows a green flashing on the ground

The second pic shows how blurry and long it takes for Fsx textures to sharpen

The third pic shows FSX when sharpened.
