March 20, 201313 yr Moderator I ran across this video clip of what has to be the neatest bit of full motion hardware I've ever seen. Lord only knows how much it would cost though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=S8kSf0EWXFU Fr. March 20, 201313 yr Who cares about cost, that's insane! Thanks for sharing. Imagine that with oculus rift, barf city. Simmo W, Melbourne, Ozhttp://www.youtube.com/user/id5556

March 21, 201313 yr All you need to to do is create a jig to fit a full size commercial cockpit instead of a fighter and your done! But, as you say the expense might be beyond most! Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
March 21, 201313 yr That looks awesome! My only gripe is if you watch it carefully, it seems like the motion lags behind the screen a bit. I am sure there is a bit more work to be done, but I think that would make me sick. Nick Hatchel "Sometimes, flying feels too godlike to be attained by man. March 21, 201313 yr Author Moderator I've tried to source the manufacturer (which I believe is in Russia), but have not found a website yet. What intrigues me the most is that it is a full 360º 6DOF platform. Well that, and the size of the monitor! I don't think I'd have much fear of motion sickness, since I'd only use it for my usual low and slow GA... ...and the occasional bizjet or tube. Fr. March 21, 201313 yr I find these types of motion platforms sort of gimmicky. Ok let me rephrase that....(since I haven't actually tried it, and it would probably be a hoot!)...these types of motion platforms MAY be gimmicky. Often you see the platform inverted to match the inverted maneuver the pilot has initiated. However does it accurately portray a sense of gravitaty (G forces) in the correct axis? For example, if you are flying straight and level, and then push the stick hard forward, the platform should go inverted to simulate you coming out of the seat, however your plane is still right side up. or if you are inverted and pulling back hard on the top of a loop, the platform should be rightside up with maybe a backwards tilt to maximize your weightinto the back of the seat for a high G effect. Same effect if you bank on the side and pull hard through a turn....your platform should be titled backwards to simulate the g force through your backside. Or how about if you pull a perfectly coordinated turn with no G effects? or a 1 G roll? To often these platforms are made to be like rides, that don't necessarily simulate the forces of flight motion. I sort of chuckled to see the demonstrators reefing the stick all over fo a wild ride, but I don't think I saw any of them apply any rudder at any point. None the less...I would wait in line for a ride in that thing Do not judge people until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Then at least you are a mile ahead of them when you ###### them off...
March 21, 201313 yr They have a similar full motion simulator, upside down, you-have-full-control thing in the Intrepid Museum in New York. Its pretty cool, couldn't stop going upside-down Ok it isn't as awesome looking as the video shown above, but its still a hell allot of fun!
