NGX FD issue with DX10 and other doubts..

Featured Replies

Hi to all, yesterday I tried out nex configuration with DX10. All process gone well, without any problem.

FSX seems smoother and a bit faster, tried with ASE and heavy rain and clouds, with my specs pc.

1) NGX flight director bugs are missed, like you can see in this screen (not mine) but same issue:

http://imageshack.us/f/203/20121028225025945.png/

Even if I try to reactivate FD bugs don't come up, why?

2) I have gtx275 dx10 compatibily gpu, so I can use Inspector filter, if yes, come someone suggest some value. I experienced poor AA only using fsx one's.

3) is it mandatory to backup original

C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX\

I didn't, and just applied ShadersHLSL. if I want to revert do dx9 may I have to restore the original ShadersHLSL folder with dx9, any link where to find it?

4) in you opinion is it possible that after a bit of use my gpu ram or system ram get "full"? I'm asking this because afer finishing a flight and reopen another (without close fsx or also closing and reopening fsx) FSX MENU are not so clear and sharp as the first time I launched it. The situation can to normality if I switchoff my pc, and the start it agam and run FSX again.

Thank you very much for your help,

Riccardo

The 737NGX FD bug appears during the initialization and disappears after it initializes.  This appears to be a PMDG bug and not a problem with DX10 as the bug did appear during the initialization process (you can click it on and off).  Submit a ticket at PMDG to see if they can fix it.

To revert to DX9, just untick DX10 Preview and restart FSX.  The files that are changed with Steve's DX10 Shader Fix only belong to DX10 and have nothing to do with your DX9 installation.  Therefore, reinstalling the original files is not necessary; however, if you look in the How To document prepared by Paul, you will see he has the original HLSL folder which you can download and replace it with the one you modified.

If your FSX Menu is not clear and sharp for the first few seconds after you start up FSX, then it indicates you have a setting or many settings set way too high and FSX is having a hard time rendering the menu or you have a defective GPU.  You do not have very much Video Memory that came with the GTX 275.  High settings will create problems.  Plus, make sure you have highmemfix=1 in the Graphics section of your FSX.cfg.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Jim

Thank you very much Jim for your explanation but FD is completely missing also after initialization process, I try to switch it on and off and on again but nothing change.

Do you have NGX with working FD in DX10 mode?

I think it's not necessary subit a ticket to P,DG because the would reply NGX doesn't support DX10 mode, don't you think?

Regarding the FSX menu I think it's a ram gpu related problem, it happens only after I end a flight and open another one. Even if I close fsx and fire up it again the problem persist. It disappear only if I restart completely my pc. Like if gpu memory could clean up itself.

Have you checked to make sure that "Advanced Animations" box is still ticked in your options?

When I switched to DX10 it unticked itself and I had to reset it.

Yes William, it's checked.

I noted that if I push HDG and ALT HOLD on MCP, FD appears. Very strange!

Does in normal condition (default and engine running) and dx9 NGX's FD is present? I don't remember anymore, but think yes.

I have run NGX in DX10 for the last four months with no problems at all, just done a take off with FRAPS running and I was getting 60fps.

Other than running into OOM with PMDG NGX, I've not had any DX10 specific issues regarding the NGX or the FD.

The OOM I solved by dialing things back by creating a PMDG specific FSX.CFG and DLL.XML file ... but for reference PMDG NGX would OOM sooner under DX9 than it did under DX10, indicating DX10 was better with memory usage.  IMHO, everything looks better in DX10, especially external views.

Haven't tested with P3D & NGX yet ... might have some free time this weekend.

Very strange, I only have this issue.

So can you confirm that after inizializiation process FD magenta cross is present?

Guys!!! but it's not a bug, it's normal that FD bugs DON'T APPEAR, they only appear if you press TO/GA button as stated on tutorial #1:

When the TO/GA button is pressed, several things happen:

• The autothrottle increases engine thrust to the takeoff N1 limit – in our case, D-TO 2 +40C , which will be around 88% N1.

• The flight director bars appear on the PFD

As my last three flights were made with MD11, where I start from cold and dark, my mistake was to think that when you select NGX and free flight with engine running also FD are present, instead NO they aren't. ONLY when you push TO/GA.

Glad you were able to find the solution. That explains why it showed during the initialization and not once initialization was complete.

Best regards,

Jim

Yes Jim, all now works great, but AA is absent.

I follow the How-To, but Inspector seems to not works.

Make sure AA is turned on the sim.  In NI Settings, make sure you open up the MS FSX profile.  Once open, click on the green icon at the top and reset your NI settings to the default settings for FSX as set up by the Nvidia techs.  That is how mine is set up and I have excellent graphics.  Perfect AA?  I think not.  Will there ever be perfect AA in FSX?  Never.  The only thing you can do is reduce the aliasing a little.  In 90% of my FSX flights I note very little aliasing and hardly none on the wings or in spot view.  If I'm in the VC and the shadows from the sun appear, it sometimes does not look good at all.  It all depends on the angle.

Now you know that you can open up FSX in windowed mode and then open up NI and goto the FSX profile and then modify the NI settings while FSX is still running?  This way you can see what setting works the best with your particular system and video card.

Best regards,

Jim

Other than running into OOM with PMDG NGX, I've not had any DX10 specific issues regarding the NGX or the FD.

I have had to do the same.  Just curious what is the longest flight for you without OOM?  I have not had a long flight yet with the NGX in DX-10 mode to know.  Just recently I did a short flight between CYYC and CYVR and I have to remove all traffics and put autogen to sparse to avoid OOM.

Forcing AA with NI doesn't work in fsx in DX10 with gtx2** generation.....

You only get what fsx does if you enable AA in configuration menu.

So I can't apply filter 8xSQ [Combined: 2x2 SS + 2x MS] under Antialiasing - Setting?

Without that filter PFD, ND and EICAS screen have a bad effect, like when you put a magnete near an old tv with cathodic tube, grey/white circle lines and dots. The screens are not completely black in the background.
