March 28, 201313 yr No they are not (unless you pay Boeing extra. I have seen Boeing manuals without bookmarks. AL said there were not worth paying for, since they only use printed manuals in operation - this was several years ago) I do not understand this. Who are "they" and who pays extra, and who use printed manuals in what operations? And why would anyone pay extra for bookmarks in electronic document? Or better, why would anyone charge extra money for bookmarks in electronic document? Lj. March 28, 201313 yr Because they can, simple as that. And yes, bookmarked manuals cost more at Boeing. Name available upon request
March 28, 201313 yr Anyone can make electronic bookmarks in few days. Lj. Prodanovic
March 28, 201313 yr Sure, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they are quite a bit more expensive with bookmarks than without. Name available upon request
March 28, 201313 yr Rather than diving straight into the FCOM manual, try reading one of the tutorial manuals first. No, boeing manuals are bookmarked properly. Sort of, all of the Boeing FCOMs specific to airliners I've seen are bookmarked, no idea about the standard Boeing ones though. I do not understand this. Who are "they" and who pays extra, and who use printed manuals in what operations? And why would anyone pay extra for bookmarks in electronic document? Or better, why would anyone charge extra money for bookmarks in electronic document? By "they" I assumed he meant the operators of the aircraft, i.e Qatar, Emirates etc. I do believe you can make bookmarks using something like Calibre but I could be wrong. Dev Singh
March 28, 201313 yr No, boeing manuals are bookmarked properly. Boeing gave them permission to use their manuals and that's why PMDG will not write their own (which is fine by me I prefer the real deal). Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
March 28, 201313 yr How is it not legal? They are published right? I have some documents and performance charts I have downloaded and didn't know it was an issue..I hope I have not broke some law? I got some for the DC-9. Copyright Information Boeing claims copyright in each page of this document only to the extent that the page contains copyrightable subject matter. Boeing also claims copyright in this document as a compilation and/or collective work. The right to reproduce, distribute, display, and make derivative works from this document, or any portion thereof, requires a license from Boeing. For more information, contact The Boeing Company, P.O. Box 3707, Seattle, Washington 98124. Is on the first page of the FCOMs, I'm pretty sure it's not legal. So if you do have one or not , I'd just keep that to my self if I was you. IIRC PMDG specifically delete comments like this. Dev Singh
March 28, 201313 yr ^Not just PMDG but AVSIM in general. I believe it can be used with fair use doctrine in mind, but it's a grey zone, I do not want to go there. Boeing gave them permission to use their manuals and that's why PMDG will not write their own (which is fine by me I prefer the real deal). No one complains about manual itself but about lack of bookmarks. Personally, I never saw unbookmarked boeing manual, but it's OK, I believe it exists. March 28, 201313 yr I do not understand this. Who are "they" and who pays extra, and who use printed manuals in what operations? And why would anyone pay extra for bookmarks in electronic document? Or better, why would anyone charge extra money for bookmarks in electronic document? The airline in question does not exist anymore. One would charge extra money because it is a feature that takes extra costs to make and generates extra demand. Anyone can make electronic bookmarks in few days. Yep. But imagine doing this to several different manuals for several different airframes (you will often have different manuals for different batch airplanes with different equipment) and repeat at every revision. Plus there might also be the whole problem of the document ceasing to be unaltered as provided from Boeing... Personally, I never saw unbookmarked boeing manual, but it's OK, I believe it exists. They might have had them bookmarked by now, as I said, it was a while ago, before the whole iPad/Tablet craze. --Peter Fabian
