Manual Navigation

Featured Replies

Guys, i need help with the manuals...it seems everytime i want to find some info out, i look for a minimun of a hour and never find what im looking for, ever.

My problem is that since owning the ngx, ive done many autolands but have never had the 'LAND 3', only 'CMD' shows up. I want to know what im doing wrong.

Im not able to help myself as these manuals are, in my opinion, usless. Like i said every time i try to find something im always on a wild goose chase between Vol1, Vol2..Vol1 refrences something in Vol2, go to Vol2, cant find it...page numbers make NO SENCE WOT SO EVER!

Personally, i think  theres  a tonn of stuff in the manuals that could of been left out as it not required in the sim, for example...the (not modeled) cockpit phone... ?... and little things like that, that could of bought the amount of pages down.

Simply telling us what PAGE NUMBER the CHAPTER started on would be a massive help.

What good is a 1250 page manual to anyone if its unnavigatable.!

So - Am i missing something? How are others finding the info they want?...i tryed searching the PDF with key words by nothing..

Yea, NGX manuals lack of navigation, I dont know if you can add the bookmarks or it's protected.

Navigating the FCOM labyrinth is a royal pain for sure, to say the least. To help ease your suffering, one has to realise that the Chapter Table of Contents is listed at the beginning of the FCOMv1 document only, and that you should turn to that navigational aid first before digging deeper into the various chapters. The chapter ToC will tell you if the chapter you're looking for is contained in FCOMv1 or v2. For example: "Communications" turns out to be chapter 5, which is part of FCOMv2.

Next, you'll have to find the start of the chapter in question within that particular FCOM document, as every chapter is preceded by its own ToC . You can do that by searching the PDF for the text string "<chapter number>.TOC", such as: "5.TOC" in our particular example. This will get you to page "5.TOC.0.1", or the first page of the table of contents for chapter 5.

THEN, you'll have to wade through that table in search for the specific topic you're after, for example "VHF Communications". The ToC will show that this topic starts on page 5.20.5. Do another search, or just scroll down, to get to that page. Read. Learn. Feel the sense of accomplishment at making it this far.

Piece of cake really, isn't it?

Do a Google search for '737NG FCOM rev. 30' and download it - you will find a a full index...

I'm not sure that's legal.

How is it not legal? They are published right? I have some documents and performance charts I have downloaded and didn't know it was an issue..I hope I have not broke some law? I got some for the DC-9.

Just because it's online doesn't mean that it should be online.

First to answer your question, Land 3 is only available with the collins A/P with Fail Operational capability. Ensure that you have both LOC and G/S displayed (armed or active in the FMA's work) along with both Autopilots on. Keep in mind the second autopilot has to be manually enabled.

Second, I think you're confused about the manuals. The manuals are NOT for the PMDG NGX. They are for the Boeing 737-600 to -900 series of aircraft. These are nearly identical to the manuals used by the real pilots of these aircraft. The only difference is that their manuals are customized to their specific setup. Since you can customize your NGX, PMDG elected to include all the information on all of the aircraft in that product range.

As with all actual manuals, the information you want is in there, you just have to know where to look. Your question is about the Autopilot system. Look in the autopilot section (Chapter 4 incase you don't have the printed version) of the FCOM Vol. 2. I know it's tricky. You have to ask yourself are you trying to do something or trying to see how something works?

Lol. Yeah the manuals can be a pain, but don't blame PMDG. Blame Boeing, cause those are their manuals

No, boeing manuals are bookmarked properly.

No, boeing manuals are bookmarked properly.

But the cost of them would make the add-on significantly more expensive.

Be happy you got the real manuals, and be glad you can actually search them, unlike the real, printed version.

No they are not (unless you pay Boeing extra. I have seen Boeing manuals without bookmarks. AL said there were not worth paying for, since they only use printed manuals in operation - this was several years ago)

Anyway, make proper use of readers search function, get an idea what volume contains what (QRH - in-flight reference, FCOMv1 - general aircraft information, limitations, procedures etc, FCOMv2 - systems description incl. panel and EFIS desription, FCTM = "how to fly the 737 for dummies")

Then learn to properly name the airplane parts and think where to look for info, for ex. here I would look under Autoflight systems and EFIS description in FCOMv2, and I am pretty sure you will find both "CMD" and "LAND n" annunciation there somewhere under [Option] heading.
