Simple Rain..

Featured Replies

My Point for this Thread was to find a other maybe simple way for Rain on the Windshield, like Alejandro Rojas Lucena do this on the FSX default 737/747. So i hope that Ryan or any else from the devs. will take a look into this Rain.

I won't fly without now, its so nice to be able to glance at your airspeed without taking your eyes off the runway or be able to see the runway's outline drawn in dense fog. This all depends on how you set up the hud and use it.

I just pan down to keep an eye on the airspeed

Why you dissmiss this thread and talk about how you fly with the HUD. I would bring up a idea and you all will mess it up. Go to the General Forum and there you can talk about the whole day about how you ride the NGX.

My Goal was to talk about with people who understand this simple doing of this application on this freeware and maybe find a solution with a alternative rain (what is not animated). But no -every time you post ######, so when anyone came in this thread he must read about how people fly with HUD -to get likes or i dont know- an he will leave this thread.

Maybe next time i send a email or pm direct to PMDG with my idea. Sorry but im verý disappointed how you handle this.

So please close and delte this Thread.

Please relax, threads go off topic all the time and i don't have an issue if my threads go stray as long as its a meaningful conversation. Just start talking about your topic and that has a better chance of going back on track vs slapping people on the wrist for going OT. I was simply responding to someone else post.

The reason I brought it up is that I'd prefer to have the rain VS the HUD thats all! If you want to make the mod and dump the hud and add rain VC effects I'll be first in line to download it

No sense in overreacting, honestly.  If others around here reacted the same way you just did, we probably would've stormed in here and pointed at the dozens of other times this discussion has been raised.  I'd say you actually caught a good day in the forum because you actually got responses that were at least vaguely helpful instead of "IBTL!" or "using the forum search would probably help."

With 109 posts, it seems that you're not completely new with the idea of forums, but as Alex mentioned, sometimes people derail the conversation.  Ignore them and carry on.  Tangents happen...

Animations were limited in the NGX to enable the HGS.

No, they were not. HGS was just one more part that needed animations, it was not THE part that ate up animations. The whole equipment principle is quite heavy on animations, also it is not present in previous products.

Still, it is actually functional, unlike raindrops... and its not like you can just make proper rain effect in FSX even semi-realistically.

I like it, but I still fly without it. It's not like every other NGX has it.

Come on Peter, I didn't say the HGS was THE part that ate up animations.  I said they had reached the limit on animations so adding the HGS meant something else had to go.  I'm sure Ryan said something like that when the subject of VC rain came up not being included in the NGX came up.  He also mentioned it took up frame time.

Of course the HGS is preferable to rain on the window, but a good rain effect which obscures vision but is cleared by the wipers would also be a good feature for realism.  In the J41 there was also a good effect for misting up the windows when the ventilation was off.  Such things add a lot to immersion.

No, but you singled it out as if it were. By your logic, I could have said that moving yokes were the part that made raindrops impossible. Or knobs.

Proper rain effect would be very nice, but I am pretty confident it would be very nearly (if not completely) impossible to produce in FS, as well as a support nightmare if made right (a.k.a Why the hell can't I see out the goddamn window).

I wish I could find Ryan's original post about this, it's my recollection of that that I'm trying to get over. It isn't that the HGS made rain impossible, rain was deleted because they were over the animations limit with HGS included. If animations are at the FSX limit and you want to add some more then something else must be taken out.  Other things like seat animations went too.

Existing VC rain effects aren't perfect by any means, but it's better than nothing.  Same goes for rain in the visual systems of full flight simulators.  By your reasoning they shouldn't have it because it doesn't realistically obscure vision.

What the HUD can do:

Without the HUD that landing wouldn't have happened, I would have gone around, and then the VATSIM Approach controller would have left before I got back down (they logged out before I even got to the gate).

That's not the point.  No one is suggesting taking the HGS out of the sim.  It's too good a feature, and too well implemented, to miss out on.
