Very easy way to remove a virtual cockpit

Featured Replies

I found a freeware hex editor that is very easy to use to remove virtual cockpits. Go to: http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/free...32.htm#download and download a copy of the XV132 hex editor. There are good instructions on how to install it. Once you have it installed, to remove a virtual cockpit, do the following:Click on File, then OpenUnder "Look In", find the model file in the FS9 aircraft file you want to edit.Click on the .mdl file and open the particular aircraft mdl file. Click on Search, then on Replace.Click on the Hex String Radio Button in the Find portion, and type in 00 22 00 39 00 in the box. Then in the Replace With portion, click on the Hex String radio button, and type in 00 22 00 00 00, and click OK. Then click on save. I want to give credit to Douglas K who posted on 31 Dec on another thread about removing virtual cockpits. He was the one who provided the hex strings you need to edit from and to. I only found this particular hex editor and played around with it. I have very little knowledge about hex editing, and don't have a clue what you would have to do to get a virtual cockpit back again, so use this at your own risk! Bill

BillDoes this do anything performance wise? I have a few A/C where I don't use the VC because it's poorly done, and would remove it if there is anything to be gained. Generally, though, I prefer flying from the VC if it's a good one.David

>I found a freeware hex editor that is very easy to use to>remove virtual cockpits.Nice, Bill, there goes my thousand hours of hard labour with a simple replace of 39 into 00... I wish you had found a freeware hex editor that is very easy to use to *create* virtual cockpits...Aren't you turning our beloved virtual flying world upside down with this suggestion ? If you don't like VC's why not stick with FS2K or FS98 even ? Are you planning to find a cure to get rid of those needless visual models as well ? If so i'd better start looking for another hobby like embroidery or something, along with all my colleagues. Jan :-hang

:-rollwhy not email the author and ask them for a no VC version?hacking is hacking, and uploading such hacks would be WAY over the line.If you do it to your own fleet, that's fine, but publicly condoning this type of foolery is not needed.it gives the impression that designers WANT their work hacked up.that's just my opinion.

I can't take any credit for the hex edit method of VC removal. I came across that on another forum. I'm amazed at the amount of anger this subject arouses, and that any of you could be so narrow minded and self centered as to respond in this manner. And some of the very same people responding to this thread were involved in the earlier topic in the design forum.I just finished writing several paragraphs in response to another thread on this forum where I wrote:"Opposing viewpoints that offer subjective opinions shouldn

I find it funny really. Certain planes like PMDG's NG have no VC editions so this would not be any help any in the FPS department. In fact most payware aircraft have no VC editions. As to the hex, for god's sake folks, there is nothing wrong with people messing with their files on their computers unless stated clearly in the EULA. If someone desires to use this then it's their bussiness and if they *hate vcs* then good for them, I personally believe this is a straw man since it's easier to defend against HATERS than curious free will folks... Boy, you think this thread is heated? Just put up a topic on say "Ariane" and watch the fireworks fly!I agree what one does on his own PC is his business. (just don't upload it). I wonder if the modeler is more upset because a person is "hacking" his VC or because people don't feel his VC work is up to par?I guess the only reason I would go to the trouble would be because I understand this could improve framerates.

bite me! why not answer my question? A 400 word diatribe is not needed, again.you are going off on the wrong people. You are slinging insults at a few guys who carry this hobby on their friggn backs.you, are no one.byegrrrr. it's no mystery where all the good guys went. hiding from YOU!:-roll :-roll :-roll

BillI'm really sorry for the response you got here for just passing on a bit of information. I don't think I've ever seen such a hateful response in this generally civilized forum. Hopefully it's just a bunch of people had a bad day. Hopefully.David
