April 15, 201313 yr Hey Jim Any chance of a short video sequence to see what it really looks like? cheers Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
April 15, 201313 yr Author I have all my FSX files on a SSD and if I start adding megascenery I will run out of room very quickly. Would it work if i install it to my main hard-drive or does it need to be in my FSX folder. Also, how many FPS have you saved with this add-oon? Would things generally run smoother without UTX or autogen? Thanks You can put the files on any HDD or SSD. I have mine on another HDD and separate for the HD that my FSX is on. Hard to tell about FPS. I have mine locked at 40 fps and 80% of the flight from Houston to Oklahoma City is 39-40 fps. As I near an airport (or at takeoff/landing) fps may drop to the teens to the upper 20's. I just finished a flight from Oklahoma City to Houston in my PMDG 737 with AS2012, ProATC-X, and XPAX and maintained those figures. The program works best with a LOD_Radius of 6.5. Anything higher and you could suffer an OOM. MegaSceneryEarth has recommended settings for best enjoyment. Hey Jim Any chance of a short video sequence to see what it really looks like? cheers Hi Phil, No. Sorry. I don't do videos. I'm hoping the developers at MegaSceneryEarth can do one as they have for most of the other states they have released. I have seen videos of other states made by other purchasers so maybe one of them has one they want to show. Please don't make me learn something new.... Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! April 16, 201313 yr Commercial Member It's a huge amount of files and space on the hard drive, but it's well worth it. Being in way south east texas (I can literally fly into mexico in about a minute after taking off) I do a bunch of Southwest flights all throughout Texas and with MSE, it looks ridiculously great in the flight levels, it gets blurry once you get to ~4000 AGL, but it comes with the territory I guess. Well worth the purchase, in my opinion. Hi there... if it's getting blurry at 4000, then you need to look at your video card settings and make some adjustments. With proper adjustments, the scenery can display full sharpness/resolution down to closer to 1200 ft AGL. Take a look here - http://www.megasceneryearth.com/store/cart.php?page=usage_tips Note in particular the section toward the bottom about Additional tweaks you can apply. Give that a go and I am sure you will see a very good improvement in the scenery quality. Remember that the textures are photoreal... they cannot go blurry on their own, unless you start to get closer and closer to them (i.e. the same zoom effect with normal photos), so if you are getting blurries above even 1500ft AGL, then this is a result of video card settings. Give the tweaks a go and report back Hey Jim Any chance of a short video sequence to see what it really looks like? cheers One is being made for Texas yes You can view other videos showing some other states here This has got to be the largest download and installation of an FSX product ever! Best regards, Jim I believe this is the case. I can't recall of any other FS addon in history that even comes close. High resolution imagery over such large areas consumes a lot of space! But this is the price to pay if you want real scenery I guess. I have all my FSX files on a SSD and if I start adding megascenery I will run out of room very quickly. Would it work if i install it to my main hard-drive or does it need to be in my FSX folder. Also, how many FPS have you saved with this add-oon? Would things generally run smoother without UTX or autogen? Thanks You can essentially store it anywhere! It's quite flexible, as it only needs to be "linked" to the FSX scenery library, so as long as they link tells FSX where to find the files, you can put them on any attached storage, whether that is internal drive, SSD, or even external drives (USB 3.0 recommended though for faster initial loading). It can go on any drive letter also. Re frame rates, because MSE eliminates autogen, frame rates are almost always better than default scenery. Actual frame rates depend on your PC's performance, but I have had over 300 fps in Missouri for example and almost always well over 100 fps virtually everywhere else. Frames depend on certain other FSX settings too, like AI traffic, clouds etc etc. But you wont have any issues with frame rates with MSE, don;t worry! April 16, 201313 yr I also have downloaded Texas (whew). I have a 1TB Raptor on order, and will put all my MSEv2 scenery on that. I'm looking forward to tweaking my settings and seeing what happens. Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules

April 24, 201313 yr I got Texas now, but haven't had time to install it yet. It took several days to get the full download. Every time I walked by the computer, I would set a new file to download. It's gotten ahead of me. I have about three states that I haven't had a chance to install yet. Robert Yunque
April 24, 201313 yr Grab any screenshots of that flight giz? Are you planning in doing California, Arizona, NM, Utah, and Nevada? I have the entire state of each which is pretty good. I bought them not too long ago..If you remake them will they be much better? Are there any discounts for customers who already spent all this money on all these states? Or, do you think these states are a good as it get's, currently ?

Or, do you think these states are a good as it get's, currently ? Yes, all these states will be done! We are working east to west, as can be seen on the map here Re, being much better. That depends on your viewpoint. They will be different. MegaSceneryEarth 2.0 series is being produced by an entirely different developer than the original MegaScenery series... The 2.0 versions will be similar in features to the existing 2.0 states. They will have high-resolution 50cm/pixel coverage (where available). They will not have autogen like some of the earlier MegaScenery series however. Re discounts, for existing customers, unfortunately we cannot do this because of the above situation with developers. They were developed by two different groups, so the discount would have to be swallowed by the new developer which is not really fair. On the whole, however, MegaSceneryEarth 2,0 scenery is extremely cheap per square mile of coverage, so you do get great value for money already! It works out to be around $0.06 per 100 square miles (as a rough average). I hope that answers your questions. I understand it's photoscenery; however, I want to understand this; does the terrain rises as in real world? I mean like you can see hills , mountains and fly over them at their respective altitudes, or are you just flying over a photo which just gives the impression there's a mountain there- but it's not...it's just a picture (photo) ? (Sorry, I'm dull on how photoscenery works .)

(Sorry, I'm dull on how photoscenery works .) Yes the terrain rises. This is called terrain mesh. MegaSceneryEarth utilises the default terrain mesh included with FSX in the USA. It is quite good resolution and does the job well. You can add your own third party terrain mesh data if you wish and this will also work no problem with MegaSceneryEarth textures. What photoreal textures do, however, is to actually give the impression of a higher resolution terrain mesh than what is already there... You can see how the photoreal textures layer over the terrain mesh in FSX in any of our example videos. shows MSE 2.0 Vermont. Hope that helps! I'll just wait now for that email that was giving me about 35% discount...I hope it comes back to my inbox to try this new 2.0 version. :Praying: Also, I wonder if (where there's water), if the water actually moves..is it active ?

All large bodies of water (large enough to land a plane on) have been watermasked in MSE 2.0 scenery. This doesnt actually make water flow like in a river (FSX doesn't support that feature really) but it means you can land on the large lakes etc and have the water landing effect and animations etc, so the watermasked areas in MSE scenery acts like the default water in FSX.
