United's Q400's?

Featured Replies

Any idea where are these operating from? I surely did not see any at ORD recently?

Not sure your going to see a "United/Continental" variant. Most if not all Dash-8's operate under a regional carrier name . In the NE it is or was Colgan. I believe its Republic now. Out of Denver its Republic (united Express). I enjoy flying the Republic routes out of Denver.

Used to be EWR to and fro  Albany, Rochester, Buffalo, BWI, I think DCA even.  I see one Pittsburgh now.

I think you are going to find most come out of the east coast most out of KEWR (Republic), There is a KDEN-KMCI flight out west, but that's the only one I see out there. United regionals out west are mostly served by Skywest, which flies mostly CRJ's.

Thanks

Yes.  Republic now operates (I've lost the number. Standby for an update) Q400s.  Originally it was Colgan/Pinnacle.  It's a big love triangle I honestly can't keep up with.

Republic exclusively flies the Q400 out of Denver now.  No more Newark hub. Bummer.

EDIT:  DEN, EWR, PIT and MCI are crew bases for the Republic Q400s.  My information was old. Sorry Tom.

They operate out of KIAD to KCHO, KPHI, and numerous locations along the east coast and as far west as Kentucky and Tennessee, if I am not mistaken. Go to FLIGHTAWARE.COM and do a search on departures out of KIAD and focus on the Dash 8 hardware. You will come up with dozens of flights a day. I have flown the KCHO ->KIAD->KCHO flight many many times over the last 25 years. Not all were 800's, but a Dash 8 never the less. They also fly SAAB 340's on that route so you might find a lot of those too. (and I will beat him to it before he gives his keynote at FANCON; one of the most uncomfortable flights I ever took on that leg was one flown by none other than Rob Randazzo, of PMDG fame. He was PIC on this Saab 340 and had a female good looking check pilot flying third seat. He absolutely did not have any rudder discipline at all. I was in the back the bird and every time he flat footed the rudder, I thought I was going to loose my lunch. I had just spent some 30 hours or so getting to KIAD from Sydney, Australia. A perfect ending to a perfect day... ).
