This is the article.

The article did say there was still a heat issue, but not as bad as IB.  Hopefully the retail version will have this fixed.

At OCN it is in the rumors section.

Here are some quotes out of the article that I like!

__________________________________________

The Core i7-4770K processor was tested on an un-disclosed Z87 motherboard due to NDA issues, it is mentioned that overclocking through BIOS is very detailed and users can easily reach 4.8 GHz – 5 GHz on air cooling.

At average, the Core i7-4770K shows a 5-10% IPC improvement over its predecessor, the 3770K.

I think I've been seeing, since the days of the 386, the usual pre-release conversation of, "oh, it's only an incremental step.... Intel is losing the picture.... I'll stick with what I've got..... I'll wait for the next version....."

Despite all that, there's usually a significant improvement that (be it Tick or Tock) -- while it may not look super-exciting in benchmarks -- rolled up into overall results turns out to be well worth the expense at some point.

Think I'll wait for the post-Haswell Tick (mainly because I've just spent a lot upgrading after a very long time), but I'm pretty sure there will be significant gains with this generation of Intel chip.

One of the interesting things to me is, there's more and more effort being put into integrating security capabilities into the CPU architecture itself.  Over time, and with the right software architecture, that could offload a HUGE performance headache entirely from software, much of which is suffering now because there are umpteen different ways of trying to deal with a zillion moving security holes in multiple layers of the software environment, all of which eat substantially into performance, particularly in what is increasingly an XML, web-based environment within which all software operates.

Hats off to the ongoing R&D at Intel, I look forward to significant steps forward over the next few years -- just not in terms we're currently used to. :)

4.8-5.0 on air is a step in the right direction, getting back towards Sandy Bridge there and with a couple of incremental IPC increases that means it's a fair bit faster as well.  I may or may not be a day 1 buyer of Haswell, I do want to build a secondary PC and could just migrate the primary components of my current system down while replacing mobo/CPU with a Z87/4770k combo, hoping for 5.2GHz+ on water which should be enough to make the upgrade worthwhile.

I sure hope it turns out to be a great OCer!!

Power efficiency / overclockability essentially the same thing!

I may or may not be a day 1 buyer of Haswell,

If I decide to upgrade I will wait until late summer or early to mid fall. I will wait until a really good overclocking MB comes out, preferable Asus, a Rampage V Extreme for Haswell would be great!

I have been waiting to upgrade for awhile.  I wanted to upgrade to SB-E and decided the performance and OC was not worth going from what I have to SB-E.  Then I decide I would wait for IB, after finding out you had to pop the top on IB to get a decent OC on air I decided not to upgrade.  So after all this waiting I sure hope that Haswell can get close to or at 5.0GHz on air and then I will definitely upgrade, it would just be a question of when a MB comes out that I want and when I am ready to go through the hassel of builing a PC.

It’s a complete no brainer for me, since my upgrade history is X6800 on an Asus Striker Extreme with a GTX 8800 to an i7 920 @ 4.3 GHz on X58 and a GTX 580. Next is a Haswell based build in the fall or early winter without a doubt! And without a doubt it will be a huge performance jump for me.

Hi

I preorderd a GA-Z87X-UD5H with Sound Cor3D ( creative soundcard intigrated) and 4770K

I go for Gigbyte, mostly for the User Interface

Then i shall buy some new sticks , dont now what brand yet but something +3000mhz

Westman if you don't mind me asking what were the pre-order costs?

I was going to rebuild my current 2600K gaming box on a Z77 board and in a new case as I was not happy with temps in my stupid Alienware and also build a second 2500K system as my day to day box.

I have all components except for the Mobo for the 2500K box, but now I'm thinking maybe I just sell the 2500K, relegate the 2600K to my day to day box and pick up Haswell & Z87 Mobo for the gaming box.

Just hoping my current 2133Mhz RAM will be compatible with Z87 as I'd rather not have to replace that as well if possible.

Edit to my previous post: Executive decision made. I will be going Haswell since I think it's kind of silly for me to buy another Z77 board for the 2500K with new tech just around the corner. But more importantly the Wife OK'd it!

So I'm selling off the 2500K and 8GB 1600Mhz RAM I had for that rig, but may wait to buy 4770K until the C2 stepping boards are out in July resolving the USB issue.

New rig will be:
4770K

Some sort of Z87 Board
8GB or 16GB 2400Mhz RAM
EVGA GTX 680 2GB (Already Have)
Asus Xonar Essence STX (Already Have)
Corsair H110 (Already Have)
Corsair Carbide 500R Case (Already Have)
Corsair AX850 PSU (Already Have)

Current rig out of components I currently have will become:

2600K
MSI G77A-GD65
8GB GSkill 2133Mhz
MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr III OC 2GB
Asus Xonar DX
Corsair H60SE
Corsair Carbide 400R Case
Corsair TX850 PSU

I'll reuse my existing HDD's/SSD's in the rigs.

Now I just hope GTX 780 only offers marginal improvement otherwise I'm going to get the itch for that too.

Just try not to scratch the itch....yeah right...  It's like trying not to think about something. The more you try, the more you think about it.

Haha, yer I know.

I've been debating with myself the last week whether or not to go Haswell and finally decided just today to bite the bullet.

I've also told myself my next GPU upgrade won't be until Nvidia Maxwell which is due 2014 sometime but who knows.

I get a lot of itches and often scratch them!  :P

dont now the costs , they send the mobo a couple of days or a week before release, like they did with my Titan.

Not a single one yet, the reason for buy theTitan was problems with high IQ settings during heavy wheather with the 680 , solved with the titan.
