May 3, 201313 yr Commercial Member Well guys looks like you have pretty much come to a general understanding of how to properly fly the approach. i have flown several approach to the airports listed and did not experience the disconnection of the AP.So key is you need to watch your speed. The AP will disconnect approximately 5 knots above the stall speed. Aim for an approach speed of Vref+5kts, and if there is icing Vref+20kts. To get your self setup properly if it is an ILS approach , use the AP and make small adjustments to the PLs for flaps 15 approximately 12 - 18% TRQ. Flaps 35 will require a tad more power, I usually set the PLs to 20 - 27% TRQ. At 500 feet about or even 1000 feet above disconnect the AP and fly the approach (get a feel for the aircraft. do this a few times until you get the hang of it/better understand how the aircraft responds to drag/thrust.Fly the 2nd tutorial a few times, there is mention on how to determine proper approach speeds. May 3, 201313 yr Author Well guys looks like you have pretty much come to a general understanding of how to properly fly the approach. I agree. Thank you all for your input. Bastiaan
May 3, 201313 yr I did have this happen again. I was within 5knots of VAPP/VREF, tracking down the LOC/GS fora 07L at EDDF and the AP suddenly disconnected the approach. I was using NAV SRC as NAV1 and NAV2, had the (MSFS frequence, as sometimes the RW ones don't match) ILS dialed and and all was well. I was on LOC, but below GS at 5000. A few seconds after the GS came alive, it disconnected and I had to go manual from about 8-10 miles out. I know it wasn't my speed. And I'm 99.99% sure everything was configured. I guess I'll have to try another flight and see if it happens again. EDIT: I also lost all ILS signals. Instead of showing the LOC/GS paths on the bottom and right side of the display, all I had were two red "X's", or crosses. So it turned into a purely visual approach as I had no internal guidance at all. Edited May 3, 201313 yr by Kerlix Dave Wegner - Don't be afraid of common sense or the search function.
May 3, 201313 yr Within 5 knots of Vref and "tracking below glideslope" are not a good combination...Try going faster... stay well above 125 knots on the approach, and don't go climbingto get up to the glideslope without adding serious power.. Lastly, I've found that it is easy to pull the throttles back too far... keep an eye on your Torque settings.. this plane needs careful babysitting on the approach.. Bert
