What... you suspect I might not look like my avatar or something?

Having met you Ed, I can attest with a perfectly straight face that you do indeed very closely resemble your avatar... :LMAO:

It may be a bit hard to see some of the fine penmanship as it started fading out some years back.

the many times it has been folded over and over means it is now coming apart at the seams also this needed lots of selotape that is now curling just a tad.

But i did just go tothe hallway mirror, its me.

But I tend to agree that the quest for forum members identities is getting a little too Big Brother like and I'm not sure how it would benefit this site?

I tend to agree here.  I doubt very many are making attempts to conceal their real identity.  But it might be good if it does not already exist for the staff to put together a privacy statement indicating to members just how the personal information will be disclosed or used by staff members.  I saw a clear case last week in a topic here where a member stated he had looked up personal information on other members.  It is amazing just how much you can learn, or feel you have learned, with just a small amount of information.

In the interests of discloser. That really is me in my avatar, however the A320 I'm flying is fake. :-)

It's funny because I wore that shirt on my first lesson, and again on my Solo....was my good luck charm....

Well, I do have some friends that absolutely go out of their way to conceal their identity and often use false identities ... it's their choice and for a few of these folks I can understand why they do.

Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately I don't need protect my real identity ... the joys of just being a software engineer by day/night and auto racer weekend warrior ... a humble position of little interest to most :)
