Amazing results with FSXAssist!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have been using FSXAssist for a couple of weeks now with moderate to good results, however yesterday I set FSXAssist to "Real Time" and oh boy what a difference! I'm now getting a constant 30fps and really smooth flight and landings. Fantastic piece of software.

How many other external apps do you run if I may ask?

Reason is, I was looking at this the other day, but I didn't purchase because I run usually at the same time.

-Chrome (SkyVector)

-QuteScoop

-Opus

-TrackIR

-TS3

When FSX is started, usually all these and sometimes more if I am surfing the web looking for charts and such at the same time. I would like to know if you run similar, and if so, have you noticed an issue using multiple monitors, and a good amount of external apps at the same time.

Thanks!

What does it do when set to real time?

I am quite happy with the performance of the MJC Q400 v1.006 on my system, but sometimes, I get little stutters and my frame rate starts jumping wildly which takes away a lot of the smoothness. That could be related to the fact that I have set the frames to unlimited in FSX... How have you set up your FSX to get the smooth and constant 30 fps?

I run in DX10, delete the shader cache and use FSX Assist in real time....here check the vid....

And I hasten to add, no video trickery.

Hi all - FSX RealTime mode seems to work best on a high-end machine with HyperThreading enabled.  At least on a Windows 8 Ivy Bridge computer running at 4.8 ghz.  In most cases you should run your addon apps in NORMAL priority mode for best results.

The current payware ($12.95US) version of FSXAssist is 1.04 and can be downloaded here.

A new build 1.05 is pending release in the next few days and fixes an issue with loading FSX modules that one user has reported and also changes the reload timings for FSX crash detection.

SkyPilot Software

I got it a few days ago.  It's pretty simple but it's also useful.  I did find out that my sim behaved substantially better with a higher number of cores assigned to FSX.  I futzed around with various recommended settings floating around but found out that if I give FSX 7 cores I had better smoothness and fewer problems.  Part of that might be that an increasing number of apps are now running software on outside processes and some are spawning their own threads.  Dunno...that's all invisible to me.  I might be able to bump it down to a lower number...6 or 5 but 7 is working fairly well for me right now.  Also, this app makes it painless to change various things that affect efficiency settings quickly and easily.  My guess is that it's just altering the fsx.cfg right before launch time and that, by itself, is pretty good.
