Frustrating FSX bug

Featured Replies

I have experience this bug for years resulting in many landing crashes. I have finally record this bug. Please see 00:57 of the video.

There is a sudden uncontrollable drastic bank to the left and I almost crash.... :(

This happened to many aircrafts randomly, and I hope to solve it by posting it here so that anyone who have similar bad experience and have solved it can share the solution.

I am running Active sky which I suspect could be the prime suspect of the bug. Anyone out there know a solution please help. Thanks.

That generally is caused by wake turbulence from departing or arriving AI traffic.

It just so happen that there is a 737 infront of me in this recording, but I have experienced many other occasion where there is no other AI plane around. And I am not so sure if the wake turbulence from AI aircrafts are being simulated in FSX.... Moreover I have FSpassenger running and Fspax did not register any turbulance at all....??

I've read about his on various ocasions, I just can't remember where, but it almost certainly doesn't have anything to do with AI wake turbulence, because I'm pretty sure that FSX doesn't even simulate that.

I'll search for that issue, and I'll report back as soon as I found a possible solution. One idea before I do that, though rather duoubtful: Could severly gusting winds be the cause?

I too think weather system is the likely cause...there is a cross wind of 7 knots when I was landing.   Please post if you find anything, thanks a million. :)

That's one: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336662-aircraft-banks-uncontrollably-on-approach/

Seems to be related to wake turbulence, caused by Active Sky. Are you by any chance using that program?

Btw, 7kts crosswind doesn't seem strong enough to do that to such an aircraft, maybe - but still highly unlikely - to some ultralight aircraft, but definitley not to an airliner.

There are  addons that DO simulate it!

Might be worth going intot active sky settings and disableing all turbulance, or tuen it down to a acceptable level.

Yeah, sorry, I should have said default FSX doesn't - at least not to my knowledge.

Regardless of traffic in the pattern, turn of AS wake turbulence, it can give that effect randomly I found.

Yes I am using active sky. I have follow your lead to the other post. I have lowered the wake turbulance in Active sky from 50% to 10% now. I will make some flights and report back if it still happen. Thanks. :)

Yup, I did that. Thanks.

You could be right. Many have point to AS as the cause.

Also, go to your FSX root dir and rename ThermalDescriptions.xml to ThermalDescriptions.bak. If your not into gliders, you can rename this.

Yes this is wake turbulence simulated by Active Sky. I'm pretty sure because I have experienced this before.

I have had several "hapenings" like that my self, and Im speculating if some invisible AI planes makes this turbulence effect. FS world are full of "invisible" stuf like AI planes, walls thats not there, but still makes some crashes.

Guess its just one of those things we have to live with.

I had this problem 2-3 years ago and it happened at KSFO on landing at R/W 28L.  Just before touching down the aircraft veered suddenly to the left.  I have done a lot of Internet searching and cannot find how it was resolved but recall a lot of people had this problem.  I have not seen this problem since.  You can test your theory of Active Sky being the problem by turning off weather and see if the problem disappears.  I have AS2012 installed and I do not see this problem.  Perhaps your Active Sky is not fully updated.  It might have been as simple as turning off weather in FSUIPC4 too (if you have the utility installed) and let Active Sky settings handle everything.  I will continue to keep searching for a solution.

Best regards,

Jim
