May 11, 201313 yr Hello Chaps! Anybody buy the L-1011 from Just Flight and care to comment? I was expecting this to be quite popular (certainly one of my personal favorites), but I've seen hardly a word about it. Thanks! Paul
May 12, 201313 yr If you're the type of flightsimmer that is into heavy simulations, starting cold and dark, and having the experience as close to real as possible then you want to skip this one. If you want to start FSX and jump in and fly then go for it. I flew it a couple of times and asked for a refund. It's nicely done just too simple for me! system wise its a 5 out of 10 I'm a 10 out of 10 in my preference for realism. Therefore, not a match for me.
May 12, 201313 yr Moderator Hi Paul, I personally didn't get it although I'm akin for a good 1011. I almost pulled the trigger when it came out, but I just wasn't convinced enough, especially regarding system depth. Anyways, check out these posts on avsim, maybe they'll help you make up your mind: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/394456-tri-star-coming-soon/?hl=1011 http://forum.avsim.net/topic/402982-next-weeka-lockheed-1011-tristar/?hl=1011 http://forum.avsim.net/topic/403404-justflight-l1011-tristar-released/?hl=1011 Cheers, Pete I9-13900K, RTX 4090, DR5-6000MHZ, CORSAIR ICUE H150I ELITE, ASUS PRIME Z790-P, THERMALTAKE TOUGHPOWER GF3 1350W, WIN 11
May 12, 201313 yr I have it, it's a lite product so don't expect much. The exterior model looks quite poor so I merged it with Captainsim's much better model, and I'm quite happy with the end result. The basic functions of the INS and DLC is working and the VC is very decent looking. IMO the biggest bugs are below, which is mostly due to the fact that JF used the default FSX autopilot and performance parameters. 1) EPR gauges are wildly inaccurate and setting the right amount of power is pure guesswork. 2) Enroute VOR navigation a bit difficult as the autopilot lateral mode disconnects when over a beacon's cone of silence. 3) Autothrottle is too slow to react to maintain airspeed during turns with flaps, airspeed deviation of 30+ kts possible during approach. 4) Since we don't have accurate EPR, the aircraft feels overpowered when I firewall the throttle. 5) The VC sits on the wrong place with regards to the aircraft's reference datum, and it looks weird during parking. e.g. you can see the jetway ahead of you in the VC, but in spot view the jetway is behind the cockpit (Note this is not a merge-related problem.) There's also a big problem with how JF handled NAV2 and the Copilot's HSI. NAV2 is useless as the Copilot's HSI is just a cloned gauge of the Captain's HSI and both rely on NAV1 data. It gets tricky if you have to use NAV2 e.g. DME arcs. Finally there's no official word on any updates or patches, and the official forum is sort of dead, which IMO is a bit concerning.
May 12, 201313 yr It's essentially a FSX default aircraft except that's it a Tristar. I own it and it's fine for pleasure flying. John Taylor
May 12, 201313 yr Just flight offers a demo that is functional up to 2500ft, then the visual model disappears, but I think it's good enough to try it and make your decision... Florian
May 12, 201313 yr Hi Paul, Yeah I bought the Just flight Tristar and it's Ok, just ok not brilliant or amazing. The comments mentioned above regarding problems are quite correct, which is a shame because it could be quite a nice plane if Just flight would just finish it off! Which incidentally they say they are doing. Having said that, the INS works although the two units do not work indipendantly of each other, I think for me this is the best part of this aircraft, just something different from all the FMS's were used to. The Virtual cockpit is a bit lite system wise, and most of the flight engineers panel doesn't do anything. Some switches that you need, appear in the 2D panel only, which is a shame if you fly only using the VC like I do and others just don't do anything. Although one nice touch is when my weather engine updates the winds and there is a swing in wind direction I get a "Windshear" announcement in the cockpit which I've never heard in any other aircraft. Having said all that you do get three versions, Passenger, Cargo in the RAF colours and Tanker again in RAF colours, but I'm sure someone will do a civil cargo repaint soon. I am a huge fan of the Tristar and was looking forward to this coming out. Am I a little bit disappointed, yes a bit, I would have liked a fully working system wise aircraft where all the switches work as they should. I would like Just flight to produce a patch for this aircraft to correct all the problems mentioned, but having said that it is the only Tristar in FSX at the minute............. I hesitate to comment on the Captain Sim version, because although the exterior model is a L1011-1 which is different to the L1011-500 Just flight produce, it is only that, an exterior model it is wonderful to look at with lots of detail and animations much better detail wise than the Just flight version! but having said that it isn't a plane unless it has an inside surely and Captain Sim haven't made the inside yet. Well they have some pictures on their website but that's all at present, looks wonderful but where is it!! I understand if you buy it you get the default Airbus cockpit to fly it from!!! So I think it's safe to say that Just Flight's Tristar would be better in their "Lite" range, It is OK but lite in systems functionality unfortunately. Would I suggest you buy it, well it depends if your looking for a Tristar because you want a Tristar or because you want a commercial airliner. If it's because your looking for a Tristar then there isn't another one for fsx available, if it's because you want an airliner than there are better ones out there. It depends on your own wants too, do you want a system heavy add on or one you can just jump in and fly, you didn't say in your original post what kind of flying you like to do? Anyway happy flying hope my comments help, Happy Flying, Dave Phillips.
May 12, 201313 yr The Just Flight L-1011 is one release that I bought and then exchanged - and would not recommend to others. It is maybe one notch up from the default FSX aircraft in terms of complexity. Flight dynamics and climb performance also very questionable. I'm afraid that for me, this was Just Flight doing a Captain Sim style release! It's essentially a FSX default aircraft except that's it a Tristar. John Taylor This is the best description I have seen of it.... spot on.
May 12, 201313 yr A nice enough aircraft for a bit of fun. I found the virtual cockpit quite pleasing to the eye. After doing some "serious" flying on the 737NG or Q400, I might drag it out the hanger for a checkerboard approach into Kai Tek, or a short flight using basic nav kit. Hand fly's nicely, and trims out better than most aircraft I've got. The price mark tells me it's not "high end", but nice to have an undemanding widebody that's ok-ish on graphics, and reasonable on frame rate. Just a bit of fun. Eugene
August 31, 201312 yr I passed on it. Decided I don't need or want another half assed functional plane. I'll save my money and buy the Coolsky DC-9 instead.
September 1, 201312 yr I passed on it. Decided I don't need or want another half assed functional plane. I'll save my money and buy the Coolsky DC-9 instead. Fair enough, horses for courses, and you won't regret the Coolsky DC-9. This thread seems a bit broken, your original post about the $8 sale and my reply don't seem to be here, unless my PC is throwing a wobbly? Eugene
